Brakes jammed on

If rear brakes are drum-type it is possible the shoes are jammed on the drums. They are normally retracted from there by springs, but if there is breakage or corrosion they can jam in place. One place corrosion occurs is in the wheel brake cylinders, so then the pistons do not return properly,

The same can happen with disc brakes as the pads are normally pulled back after application, just a little, by the springiness of the rubber parts on the pistons. So if there is corrosion in the calipers the pistons can stick.

Then, if disc brake pads are worn right down, I have heard of cases where the piston popped right out of the caliper on heavy braking, or else turned a bit sideways and jammed on. It should never happen, but apparently did.

If disc brakes you should be able to see this when the wheel is off. The calipers can then be removed. If drum brakes try hammering on the outside rim of the drums, this way and that, to get enough de-jamming to get the drums off.

Could be the rear Emergency brakes are binding. Jack up the rear of the vehicle, put it in neutral and attempt to turn the rear wheels by hand.

You do not have to use the Emergency brakes to have problems with them. The linings fall off the metal shoe and bind up on the turning drum within the rear rotor. Then when the direction of rotation changes, the remaining brake linings regroup and jam the other way.

Sometimes the loose lining jams into small bits, pulverized, and sometimes form large chunks that jam the brakes.

Another potential problem you can check with the rear wheels off the ground and in neutral is the U-joints on the driveshaft. Popping is a symptom of play in the joints. Binding is a possibility but the joint is close to breaking at this point.

the brakes are locked up from sitting just so long just force it to move and free the brakes

This is usually normal even more so after washing or a good rain the next seems to make a little bit louder sound.

The brakes may have been stuck. When it's forced the car tends to shake but won't move. You may need to bleed the brake lines or replace the brake pistons if necessary. If they are worn out it tends to be stuck.

this could be an indication that the brakes aren`t adjusted enough and as the brakes are applied the shoes move(get pulled)in the direction the drum is turning(assuming its drum brakes)a little that when they can`t move any more they make the clicking noise.or it may just be a bit of rust(rubbing on the backing plate)when the brakes are applied.

last one before bed in this time zone ,the problem is the master cylinder serco push rod needs adjusting ,undo teh two nuts holding the master cylinder on and where it bolts onto the servo is a rod poking out of the servo well this rod has an adjustment on the end ,screw it it a bit so it has some free play then brakes will not lock up .someone has adjusted it to make the brakes feel tighter and over adjusted it out wards too much not allowing for the fluid expansion when it gets warm .

hi, if the car has been sitting all this time with the parking brake on then the chances are your brakes are siezed on, now the parking brake locks the back wheels so this is where you should start looking for problems.

now the front wheels should be ok you can try them by jacking each wheel up and try spinning them by hand the front will be stiff but should turn with a bit of force.

how ever you could also jack the back wheels up to check they are solid if they are then you have two options the first would be to give the back wheels a few hits with a big hammer, you will need to hit them pretty hard and doing this should free the brakes enough for you to get the car moving. do this to both sides and you should find you can then use the car.

if after doing this they are still **** then your going to need to take the back wheels off and get a big hammer and keep hitting the back drum till the brakes free up, you wont be able to get to the brakes until they have freed up a bit as the brakes will be holding the drum onto the hub so you need to get them freed up first.

if you try forcing the car to much you can damage the drum at the back beyond repair so be warned.

hitting the middle of the back wheels with a sledge hammer will usually free the wheels up allowing you to move the car once it has started to move the brakes should free up over use.

your brakes wont be much good to start of with as they will be badly corroded so bare this in mind when driving.

you may need to hit the center of the wheels a few times then try moving forwards and backwards then you may need to hit the center of the wheel again, it may take a while but it will free up if you keep going.

have you adjusted it properly should be a little bit of free play if its tight your clutch will slip

Sounds like your brake calipers are locking up your tires.I had a friend with the same car that had the same problem the next stop you should make is the auto shop.I would not drive any more until you get them looked at.Its not really the car that's warming up its your brakes one way that you can tell is if you smell a really strong odor coming from your brakes.When you put it in reverse your unlocking the brakes from the drum or disc.
