A code scan can help you with that. Most common problem are fuel pump overheat (going bad) plugged filter, (Part of regulator mounted on top of sending unit), or a crank sensor that is failing (On bellhousing drivers side about 11 o'clock looking from rear) Test anything before buying parts or this can get expensive fast. (pump and filter won't show up on code scan)

Check spark first if ok then look at the fuel system.Check if the fuel pump is working continuously when turning the key.If so remove the fuel line to the ejectors and check if there is fuel there.If no change the fuel filter.

1999 GRAND CHEROKEE CUTS OFF

Sounds like you both are having problems with your coil packs.  When they start to go bad and get hot, they will shut down on you for a while until they cool back down enough to start working again.  They will get progressively worse as time goes on.  I believe that you can take the coil packs to AutoZone and have them tested for free.  Let me know if you have any other questions, but I think this will take care of you both.  Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

1999 Grand Jeep Cherokee (limited) shuts off while driving

Starter...if the starter is old, it is getting heat soaked. Replace the solenoid.
