2000 lexus es300 runs smooth when cold but when engine gets to operations tempurature runs a little ruff and when stepping on the accelerator the car will accelerate then intermittently it will stop accelerating and if you hold the peddle in the same position it will all of the sudden buck and then continue to accelerate but if you feather the gas peddle you can get it to accelerate again without the bucking if you do it just right.

Sounds like a faulty or bad connection to manifold temp sender

SOURCE: Bucking on Hard Acceleration

You best bet would be to look for the vacuum diagram and just take a day to make sure all of the lines to the engine and tranny are all correct. If its not it and while bucking the car feels like its going to turn off on you then it maybe a fuel delivery problem.

SOURCE: Have I ruined my engine?

  • since this was the final solution I thought I would include it in an actual solution for future reference. I'm glad you finally got it resolved. I won't lie to you this is one of the longest corespondences I have had :) . Its all worth it if the outcome is positive!

That code refers to the EST circuit. A new ignition module may or may not take care of the problem. It is important to check the white wire for continuity between the computer and the ignition module. I think it's pin B on the module and pin 54 on the computer. If there is a problem with that wire it will set the code and replacing the module will not take care of the problem.
  • check the signal on that wire with a lab scope. You should see a clear and definite est signal from the PCM. The wire should be ohm checked from the PCM to the module. If the code is setting as fast as you are clearing it than it should be pretty easy to figure out what is going on.

Testimonial: "Jeremy was great! He kept helping me for a couple of weeks. His patience may have been tested but he never waivered and I truly appreciate that. I am hoping that if i ever have troubles again, that he will be the one to respond. He was spot on from the get go and convincing my mechanic took a while, but eventually figured it out. Thanks again Jeremy!!"

SOURCE: Bucks on acceleration at 2300 rpm

It could be a single ploblem or a combination of the fuel system the engine could be starving for fuel or air or the timing is not set correctly. The transmission may need some adjustment.

SOURCE: 2006 Infiniti FX35 "bucking" when accelerating

It sounds like you could have a fuel injection problem, or a fuel system problem. Sounds like too much fuel is being fed into the motor too quickly. Unless you are very mechanically minded I think this may be a problem to be fixed by a mechanic.

I have a 2000 lexus es300 and my check engine light and trac off light is on and my engine is not running very well, it sounds like it's in a strain at about 60mph

Get the check engine light scanned by a mechanic. (Some parts store will do this for free, but you may not get a good answer!) This may lead you to the issue with the running problem. Start there.

My 84 caprice classic it has a very shakie idle

When you start your car, you step on the gas and turn the key, you have set the high idle feature on the carb as part of the warmup sequence. When you step on the gas again, you kick high idle off ...if premature, the engine is cold and it runs ruff, and wikll likely stall under some circumstances until you have reached operating temp. The reason for the ruffness ...is gasoline becomes 'gas' better when the engine is at operating temp than when the engine is cold.

Your battery is getting tired. When you step on the gas and the lights get brighter, it is because you are running the alternator at a higher speed and you are making more electricity which the lights are more than happy to gobble up.

Keep in mind your car is notonly a Caprice Classic ... it is a classic, 26 year old vehicle. It needs a little more TLC than a newer model.
