Get the battery and charging system tested. Sounds like the battery does not have any cranking amps. If you have a digital meter check cranking voltage. If it drops below 11 volts when you crank the battery is toast..

SOURCE: where is the starter relay

I'm not sure if the relays are marked by letters and numbers but the relay should be identified by the letter "K". One quick question; on the second attempt do you lose ALL power to everything? If this is the case you may be looking at a bad ground and would check the ground wire for starters at where it connects to the engine block. Wish I had a diagram of the fuse layout and hope it's marked by letters and numbers for you. I hope this helps and good luck.

SOURCE: 1999 saab cranks wont start

Disconnect your fuel filter and turn the key on. If it shoots gas several feet away, then the start cycle on the fuel pump is probably good. if not, then get a new fuel pump. If it's good, then the problem will be in your fuel regulator, or injectors.

My 2000 saab 93 does not want to start (turning key produces no response).battery is good, starter is good. suspect the IDM (ignition discharge module) any suggestion???

If it won't crank at all, it is not an ignition module-it is either battery, starter/relay, switch or clamps or cable connections.Remove and clean battery connections(inside lugs and battery terminals), check for tight connections at the starter, and check the ground cable at the engine/frame to make sure it has a clean (not rusty) tight connection. Check resting battery voltage, it should be at least 12.5 volts, if it is not, charge the battery so that it is. Next, turn the key to start, and check voltage-it should drop no more than 2.2 volts from resting, if more your battery is either failing or your starter is drawing too much amperage. See if a jump helps, if it does you need to get the vehicle to a commercial auto parts store to load test the battery and check cranking amps and starter draw.

My 92 saab 9000 wont start. it makes a spinning sound sort of like a hairdryer. the battery is fine and i get the oil changed every 3000 miles and all the other fluids regularly checked. so what could it...

Either the timing belt/chain/gears has failed, which can really change the sound of cranking, but the engine visibly goes around.

If the engine does not turn (as it sounds is the case with your car), but the starter spins fast enough to be described as sounding like a hairdryer, then the starter drive is bad and the starter will need to be replaced or rebuilt.

The starter drive is turned by the starter motor, and the drive in turn turns the gear that engages the flywheel of the engine. The part that turns that gear will not let the starter motor be pushed by the engine — it has a one-way, overrunning clutch in it. If the engine got a chance to spin the starter, the starer would simply explode. It is maybe 10 or 15 to one between the engine. One good start using the gas pedal would spin the starter like 15 to 25 thousand RPM...

If that overrunning clutch fails the starter motor cannot spin the gear that turns the engine.

Engine cranks but won't start

Check the fuses/relays for the fuel pump and make sure you are getting gas to the fuel injectors. Also check your fuel filter....if it is clogged it could be stopping the gas from getting to the injectors....good luck

9000 won't start!

Sounds like a crank sensor. They can drive you mad. If you hear a clicking sound when you try to start it, that is the battery. But if you turn the key it starts, you drive some place turn off the car for 5 minutes and then try to restart it, and it does nothing at all, that is a classic crank sensor.
