My 2007 gtp transmission sometimes will not work in any gear and then start working all of a sudden and while driving it will act like its out of fluid and not work again but if I turn the ignition off and wait a minute and start the car again it will drive fine with no slipping at all....any advice?

SOURCE: 1994 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE-TRANSMISSION "SLIPS" ON TAKE OFF.

First of all make sure you are checking the fluid right. Some people do not know that in order to check transmission fluid the engine needs to be running and the temperature needs to be sort of warm althought you should be able to get a good Idea just by the engine running. In this instance you might have a governer valve that isn't properly working to shift the engine when hydraulic pressure reaches a certain PSI. I would suggest having it flushed and put in new fluid and filter. If this doesn't work the problem is more serious and might need some professional assistance.

Problem with 2005 gran prix gtp

Well, since the transmission in your vehicle is computer-controlled, I think the FIRST step in diagnosing the problem should be to ask the Powertrain Control Module what is going on.

1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 3.8 supercharge, Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E rebuilt 2 years ago. Drove to work (26 miles) and all was fine, got in to leave and put gear selector in drive or 1st and nothing...

Your transmission for the GTP should be the 4T65-HD. If in fact it is not then that could very well be the problem. The 4T65-E is for the other 3.8L naturally aspirated models.

96 grand prix slipping transmission

Once it starts slipping in all gears it needs a kit. You need a hoist to get the thing out and back in. If you are looking for a low buck fix many junkyards will sell you a used one and put it in. They are almost always cheaper than a "Transmission Shop". If you have the tools and want to do it yourself buy a service manual for the car from eBay or Amazon or a former Pontiac dealer and have at it. It's not all that difficult with a hoist but it is still along day.

New transmission

The best place you'll ever find parts and service for the GTP is www.zzperformance.com

They have their headquarters garage and then several authorized satellite locations in a few states. They make their living on working only with the GTP exclusively.

Can I take a super charger out of a Grand Prix GTP and fit it on my Grand Prix GT 3.8L V6?

Well, the short answer is "yes". But - it isn't nearly as simple as just bolting the supercharger onto the intake and VOILA!, now you're supercharged. The procedure that you're inquiring about is commonly referred to as a "top swap", and there are numerous parts you will need for both engine as well as the transmission. Why the transmission? Because the GT and GTP use different gear ratios and the GTP has a 4T65HD as opposed to the 4T65E that is in the SE/GT. You will also need to have the PCM reprogrammed to accomodate all of these changes.

HERE is a great website that has a ton of very useful information, regarding this and many other Grand Prix topics.

Hope this helps and thanks for using FixYa!

98 grand prix gtp tranny

The tranny is called a 4T65E-HD(heavy duty). The rebuild kits are the same for both supercharged and non-supercharged cars. The occasional harshness is caused by the EPC solenoid hanging up from wear. I recommend installing a Superior Shift Correction kit, 4th clutch hub (the splines strip), EPC, and TCC/PWM solenoid.

This combo works great!
