Reduced power light came on and vehicle would only go 10 MPH. Later I cranked it & it ran normally. What does the reduced power light indicator mean.

not for sure but it could be your cam sensor. if the check engine light is on then take it to a parts store and they can run a scan and give you more information

My wife's last car did that when the input speed sensor conked out. so mabey replacing your bad sensor will help.

If the car is an automatic change the gearbox oil .

With GM vehicles a Reduced Engine Power message has to do with the electronic throttle control .

Sounds like your throttle body is sticking. Common problem, the reduced power is just a safe mode. 1st disconnect your battery, then clean your throttle body with throttle body cleaner. When finished, connect the battery back up. Turn off all accessoried and drive around for 20 minutes or so, for the computer to relearn a properly functioning throttle body. Should solve your problem, and if you do it yourself, will cost you around $5 for the can of TB cleaner.

It is safe to drive and I assume that you are on limp mode. This is to restrict the speed to avoid further damage to the engine. You can be facing some sensor issues like the MAF (mass air flow) sensor or TPS (throttle position sensor). If one of these sensor is faulty the car tends to run sluggish, run rough or may even result to stalling.

Have the sensors replaced and observe how it goes. This can fix the issue.

Ususally the thermostat opens at 195 to 200 degrees. Coolant and pressure allow normal temps to go to 230 to 240, and much higher under heat soak condition (unit turned off). Fans kick in near that temp. So, the engine needs to be that hot to be efficient and to have emission controls shift to normal... Also the high temprature prolongs engine life by forcing moisture from the oil.

Probably you should check or change your filters. Air and fuel. Fuel filter is most likely.
