Change the fuel filter and clean out water trap if fitted ,bleed the system so no air remains, Check out the glow plugs and replace if faulty. check the air filter replace if blocked ,If it still runs rough have the injectors serviced.

Now it wont as in its not cold now? When its cold you get more fuel kinda like a choke if you will being a power stroke they love cold air.
so its normal it should run like that tell it gets warm let it idel for a couple min.

You'll have to drain system down when cooled off, remove any brackets in your way such as power steering reservoir holding bracket, then remove 2 bolts holding the housing, and remove it. Rad hose should be o.k. to leave on, but if it creates a problem, remove it as well. I'd install a new thermostat and "o" ring complete, then a new gasket as well. Clean all surfaces well before re-installing. Replace any bracket(s) you removed to access housing, after housing is installed. Remember, air valve on edge of thermostat goes in 3 oclock position when re-installed. Also a reminder as well, spring on thermostat goes down when re-installed. After all is re-assembled, re-fill coolant and start engine and run with heater on to bleed out all air. Leave rad cap off and pay attention to temperature gauge and when you see it getting to normal operating temperature, watch flow in rad for increased flow, indicating thermostat opened and coolant is circulating properly. Wait until you see that flow increase 2 or 3 times, and air should be out of system, and top up coolant in rad, put cap back on, and check that return bottle is at proper level as well. Keep an eye for any leaks, and re-check return bottle periodically for first little while, just to be sure all is good. Note: some only use the "O" ring as a seal, and no gasket is required, but just check that at autoparts place where you get part.

SOURCE: 2000 ford super duty 7.3 diesel will not cold start

you need to have the engine coolant switch checked, since the computer relies solely on sensors, the ect tells the computer how cold or hot it is so the computer will make it a rich or lean mixture to start the engine,if it tells the computer that it is 75 degrees the computer will lean the mixture like starting a car in the winter without a choke.

I have a f-250 super duty 2005 and have the engine check light on. On start up, runs rough, smokes then is ok. Any ideas ? Jim

Hello, Best thing is to have a free scan at Autozone, Advance, or Oreillys autoparts. You need to have the Code erased after the repair anyway. If this is a diesel engine, the glowplugs or Timerbox is probably the problem. For a Gas engine, the Cold start sequence may be inoperative. The Cold start sequence would increase the idle, burn off the extra fuel, and eliminate the rough idle.

The quickest and most accurate solution is to get a scan.

2001 ford 250 s/dv-10turns over fine. wont start sometimes.when it starts it runs fine.seems like cold weather makes it worse.if it starts it wont die.started about a month ago and getting worse.

Make sure the battery doesn't have a dead cell or is over two years old first. Then depending on usage I would definately think about getting a new starter. I would suspect your battery first, due to the cold weather corrolation.

Ford has several recalibrations for the powertrain control modules. Some deal with running rough on cold starts. You could also have a malfunctioning glow plug system.
