Check the cable clips at the trans. Sometimes these clips come out and won't shift. Horseshoe clips that hold the cable housing.

SOURCE: i have a 1994 mitsubishi mirage 1.5L with a 5

By memory I think in 2000 models MMC has changed the engine from E-W direction. Concerning your reverse gear can you tell whenit stopped working? Is it only the lever that is not going to the far right. Is 5th gear getting in easily? How is the trvel of the gear lever in the neutral channel?

This vehicle has a pair of shift cables which attatches to the shifter and runs to the transmission shift housing. To diagnose, removal of the center console is in order so you can inspect and verify the shifter/cable connections and movement, then verify the cables move the linkages properly at the transmission . These cables are a fairly common failed part and sold as the set, these are a dealer item and no aftermarket cables are available .

4 wheel drive mode stuck. Please help!

Why can't the mechanic fix it? I could pull the motor and put you in two wheel drive. You could need a module, but most likely it is a ground problem. Could be a motor problem also. Find another mechanic that can disgnose lctrical problems.

What is the proper kind of transmission fluid for a transmission change?

Mitsubishi would love for you to use their oil, lololol. In reality, the proper oil is the oil rating needed. I usually use a good name brand oil and be sure it is that SPIII ATF I guess. I use Hypoid GL4 manual transmission oil which also can go into the rearend too if needed. If replacing the trany oil, be sure to dump the old oil and clean the magnet located on the drain bolt when you dump it. By the way, I use the oil I mentioned in an 86 Mitsubishi mighty max 5 speed. I use the 80-90wt. Might need to warm it up before pumping it into the tranny. Don't over or under fill the trany too.

I have a 1999 mitsubishi montero sport ls with an automatic transmission. the transmission is stuck in low gear and you must drive it approx. 5-6 miles before the transmission starts shifting properly

have the autobox fluid level checked , as the age of vehicle is 15 years i would have the fluid changed unless you know for sure its been changed in the last 20k miles

96 escort manual 5 speed stuck in reverse

Is the stick moving? or is it 'stuck' in the reverse position as well? There are adjustments but it seems more likely that your 'stick' has come unstuck from the gear levers that actually put the gears in the right spot. Have someone look at the transmission while you move the stick to see if the levers are moving and put your response here.
