No there is way to safely fix this without a kit that is approved for the job. I would contact someone who deals with disabled persons whom often need this kind of modification made to the pedals in the car.
If it is a chain, just ask for a timing chain kit,it will have everything in it to do the job, except for the gasket,if it is a timing belt, just the belt is all you need, either way,it is good to replace the water pump while you are there also.
Try buying top quality rotors, Raybestas, Wagner, or Bendix. Do not buy second line rotors. Buy the top line, OE quality pads. Make sure that when the rotors are installed that you clean out behind where the rotor mounts and the studs. All rust, dirt and debris needs to be removed. When you mount the wheels back on the vehicle, they need to be torched back to ford specifications, follow the specs to the letter. These trucks are VERY picky when it comes to brakes and skipping just one of the steps above will lead to trouble.
no... the 97 crown vic has a timing chain not a timing belt...it involve 7.4 hrs book time to replace with gears ...parts to include front gaskets and timing kit about 200+ in parts and at 75 an hr ..555 in labor..guessing less than 1k to do the job ..(here in california)
