Everybody is telling me that my 91 Cadillac deville is running rough because my barb or intake could be stopped up how do I clean it and is it a good idea to take the Cadillac convertor off and straight pipe the muffler

The "check engine" light will "light" when there is a malfunction in the engine management system. The fault code is then stored in the computer. The computer must be scanned to retrieve these stored faults to pinpoint the malfunctioning component. We recommend buying your own scanner and doing it yourself. With a pocket scanner you can check for fault codes to find out why the light came on in the first place. You can clear your cars trouble codes after you replace the malfunctioning sensors.

I would beleive more that you have build up in the heater core. Try taking loose the heater hoses from the block and use a water hose to spray into one of the hoses letting it come out the other hose then switch hoses with the water hose and keep reverseing for 2/3 times each hose. sounds like stop leak may have been used in a prior time and may be blocking water flow.
Good luck,

It sounds like your batery is empty.
Or maybe your start rotor is a bit stuck.
if so give it a hit with a rubber hammer that can help loosen it.

On my car, which is the same as yours, it is located on the manifold top back left. Pictures in the book just show it on top.

Check for coolant flow at the Purge line, this is a common problem on the Northstar.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank, this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.
