My 98 gmc jimmy would not start unless i spray starting fluid in it than it would run fine today it started with fluid but stalled right away and this keeps happening i changed filter, and spark plugs i'm getting spark and fuel is working but sounds a little weird .....help don't want to just start replacing parts

its an electric pump installed in the top of the tank with the inlet/outlet.

Fuel pump issue.--

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

This happened to me I had to spray Starting fluid everytime eventually. Starting fluid wouldn't work after awhile. Its the fuel pump. Even though it comes on and works its not producing enough fuel pressure to start the engine. It's probably giving about 12-13lbs of pressure but it needs atleast 14lbs. of pressure. And a word of advice to buy a ACDelco original fuel pump if you don't want to have to replace it again in 1-2 years, it's more expensive but will last.

check the crank sensor and the injectors also check all wiring especially that one for shorts or looseness

THOSE VEHICLES HAVE A HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP THAT WILL ONLY START IF IT REACHES 60 PSI OR MORE.. BUT ONCE IT IS RUNNING REQUIRES LESS PRESSURE.... MAKE SURE THE FUEL PRESSURE WHEN STARTING EXCEEDS 60 PSI OR IT WILL NOT START...

u may want 2 check with a dealer gmc dealer but u may have 2 fuel filters on your jimmy poss. an in-line filter runs down the pass. side or driver side not all cars are the same

where did you get the pump replaced?a dealer or local garage There are 2 pumps for the jimmy one for a plastis tank which is an 18 gal and one for a metal tank which is a 19 gal.if the jimmy has a metal tank get the 19 gal pump . i ran into the same problem with my 98 jimmy

try the fuel filter.it will allow it to run but sometimes causes vehicle to stall or run rough

My 98 Jimmy runs on synthetic oil and starts well after sitting in cold weather. If the weather is the problem, try checking that. If it is warm... sorry no ideas.
