Went to start my car this morning and the gearbox is stuck in reverse and will not change into any gear whether the engine is running or not, can anybody help me please?
If this is an auto tranny, you may want to make sure this is on driv. possible causes of this is the transmission solenoid or the gear selector as it is stuck on reverse. best if you will have it checked by a professional as the location of the parts mentioned is hard to reach without specific tools.

Change gearbox oil, before you do that check the upper and lower shift boots and turret oil. Do it soon, if gearbox locks up pushing the clutch in won't save u wheels are permanently connected to gearbox when in gear, a high speed lockup is not going to make your day.
If this problem occurs when you back out of your driveway first thing in the morning, then it could be the handbrake shoes sticking, a very common problem.
If the problem is genuinely in the gearbox, it could be due to low gearbox oil level.
If none of the above, then your gearbox could require overhaul. Let me know.
Your description makes me remember an old Austin Metropolitan I had once. The gear linkage was crude and it was possible sometimes to engage two gears at once resulting in a lock-up and a stalled engine. It never happened while driving at speed.
When repairing a gearbox, once the selector linkage has been removed it is usual to select two gears in order to lock the shafts for the tightening or loosening of a retaining nut. There is built into the internal selector linkage an interlock to prevent two gears being selected.
I imagine that interlock in your gearbox is worn or broken...
It will be best to get someone to check the hydraulics of the clutch. That is a common issue.
Get a workshop to drain the gearbox oil and flush the system. A tell tale may come from the drained oil if the tranny is near end of life.
I'm guessing that the gearbox speed sensor was damaged in the shunt, this can happen if the gearbox was in park when it happened - causes internal damage to quite a lot of components. The speed sensor tells the gearbox the speed of the input shaft and the transmission control computer then signals the gearbox to change gear accordingly. If this is damaged it could account for the symptoms. Suggest taking to a LR dealer for diagnosis, they should pick up any sensor faults with their plug in diagnosis tools. Whilst it will cost a bit, it will save you a lot of component changing and there are a lot of components to change on a Disco!
