Fluid level. Replace trans filter and fluid. No luck? May have to rebuild unit. To prevent this from happening, change trans fluid every 24K miles or so.

SOURCE: having problems with my 96 chevy tahoe mass air flow

The MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor is a very common problem with these along with the pickups. This isn't what you would call an inexpensive part. Definitely do some shopping before you buy one.

SOURCE: is it true that in a 1996 chevy tahoe 4x4 u can't

The key distinction of the Later 4L60-E (1997-2006) from the Early 4L60-E (1992-1997) or 4L60 (1990-1992) or 700R4 (1982-1989) is the six-bolt "hex" rear output or tail housing / adapter pattern. The previous versions featured a four-bolt square bolt pattern at the adapter or tail housing. This is where that made the small change and the 96/97 year was a change over year so you may have the newer housing or the older housing, but if your replacing the transfer case with the transmission your good to go, the electronics are the same. Just the body housing is different. Good luck and hope this helps. And why wold you want to convert the transmission, there are lots of easy simple up grades with out dropping the transmission or valve body.

Unless you have rebuilt transmissions before, this is a virtual imposibility. This requires several special tools and a great deal of mechanical expertice.

96 chevy tahoe 4x4 transfer and transmition problem

It sounds to me like your gearbox is knackered, but just to be sure get underneath & check all the linkages, get yourself a workshop manual as linkages are easy to fit even for a novice, solenoids are relatively inexpensive so if you don't feel like doing this yourself then try this route first.

I am unable to get reverse in my Chevrolet Tahoe 96. Serviced transmission 9 months ago and all has been fine. Seems to be shifting a little different when going forward. Please help.

the reverse sun gear shell is a very common problem with the chevy 4l60 transmissions. the trans will need to be taken out of the truck and repaired.

My 1998 chevy tahoe wont go into reverse what do you think is wrong

Transmission is bad OR you're facing the wrong direction and the transmission actually won't go forward!

Transmission will not move in drive

First check the ECM to see what error code(s) it has set. This is done through the OBD-II connector under the dash on the driver's left leg side.
Then post a new question, "What does code _____ mean on a 2003 Tahoe?"
