It needs to get a computer check. Sometimes with older cars the lights start going off for no reason.

SOURCE: check engine light

Had the same codes on my truck. cat converter was plugged. I was told to take the cat off and gut it, then put it back on and it would run fine, but that didn't work. You need a new cat. Might want to replace the o2 sensors before and after the cat also. Hope this helps.

try pulling the plug out and putting a very small dab of loctite thread locker on it and see if this stops the problem.

have the crank sensor check for erratic operation. if you have done all of that then there is nothing else. and they way the computer knows it is misfiring (if it is) false code maybe and could be bad crank sensor. good luck

I have a 1986 ford ranger 4x4 with a 2.9l and auto transmission. It is very hard to start. When it does finally start it idles high. What could be the problem?

If the idle remains high after the engine is warm, then you have a vacuum leak. Check all of the rubber hoses coming from the intake after the throttle body.

Check your operator's manual. Make sure any and all fuses that have anything to do with the affected items are not blown and are working properly. If you can; check for loose fuse connections or wires. Hope this helps. God bless!

The service engine light stays on. We have

The problem you describe sounds like what I had a few months ago. Have the trouble code checked at Autozone for free and if you get 172 & 174 then you have isolator bolt problems (The engine is running lean). The fix is to replace the isolator bolts ($7 each) and clean the ports. Should take about an hour or two. Contact me at cmckllar<at>bbtel<dot>com for futher help.

2000 ford ranger

It isn’t a check engine light problem. Unless moisture has been able to get into your fuel tank. You can purchase that hose from most auto parts stores.
