SOURCE: keeps mis-firing on cylinder #3
first, check the spark plug and wire going to the number 3 cylinder on the engine( # 3 cyl. is the one by the firewall, on the driver side of vehicle). If plug looks ok, make sure you get good spark at the end of the wire where it hooks up to the spark plug. If no spark, check the wire for cracks, breakache , etc. Make sure wire is in good conditions. If still no spark at the # 3 cylinder wire, check the ignition coil. Do, by disconnecting wire at ignition coil and with car running place a screwdriver at ignition coil and make sure there is good spark. If no spark comes out, replace ignition coil. If problem still continiues after making sure plug, wire and ignition coil are ok, check cyl. compression and fuel injector for proper fuel delivery. Simply, by replacing the plugs and wires may solve your complaint but you still need to check the car to be certain you don't waste your money by guessing and replacing unneeded parts.

SOURCE: Service Engine Soon Light
The best way to know what is happening there is to drive a GMC dealer and get them to hook in the diagnostic tool and read the computer memory for present faults.

You said you checked your battery, did you check volts and amps? It's possible that your battery is not functioning properly. You may need a new one. Does it start if you try to jumpstart it?

These lights are computer readings. When a sensor reading goes bad, it tells the computer, then lights up the dash light. What you need to do is go to your local Advance Auto, or Auto Zone and ask for a computer diaglosic test. They will do it for free. If you have a car that they can not plug in to like a Ferrari, then you should go to your car brand's dealership. A diagnostic test will tell you exactly what sensor is reading trouble and send you down the right path to repair instead of running around.
