Question about Dodge Cars & Trucks
My 2002 Dodge Stratus just stopped running while driving and just cranks over, but will not start. I connected my OBD2 to it's connector and I keep getting a " unable to establish a link with the vehicle" Q: what would cause the vehicle not to start as well as not allow a connection to the cars computer through the DLC?
The relays are prone to failure. They can be switched for trouble shooting. Fuel pump relay is a good start for not starting. I keep a couple of relays in the glove box of my Dakota for failure on the road.

These are two different problems . The engine not starting could be crank/cam position sensor/s Check that the cam shaft is turning ( broken timing belt/chain). Check that the connecting cable you are using is in fact connecting to the right pins in the data link socket . There are several different set ups

Yes it is the purple connector. Any generic OBD II scan tool should be able to pull up P codes. Sometimes you will get an enhanced DTC and no code will be given. If there is a shop in your area with a Launch X431 scan tool I'd go to them and have it scanned. Any Auto Zone can scan it for you to. Also I have never had a problem scanning any VW with an aftermarket stereo. Is your MIL on? If it isn't on I don't know why they would want to run a scan for the safety inspection.

Up to 99 or 2000 model maxima's arent OBD II. There is a OBD I connector located behind the fuse box cover inside the car. It is a grey connector.

it would be best if you took it to a dealer and left a mechanic take it home over night, that way he can have the Chrysler drb hooked up when the problem presents its self.
