The 1999-2003 Lexus RX300 models have a common failure of the engine computer that causes the harsh shifting of the transmission. You need to get the computer (ECM - Engine Control Module) rebuilt or replaced before it causes permanent damage to the transmission. Even if the transmission is already ruined, the ECM will still need to be repaired. Most often, the transmission is fine though, and rebuilding the ECM will restore the smooth shifts that the Lexus should have. Circuit Board Medics can rebuild the ECM and reprogram it so that you only have to plug it back in when you get it back. your front wheel drive rx300 doesnt use gear oil, the differential is lubricated internally by transmission fluid. the trans fluid is only reccomended if its dirty. if its a dark brownish red thats normal. or if its pinkish red then its new. if its black or yellow then time to flush it out. if you decide to change the trans fluid I believe the spec is 3qts. check it with the engine running and cold. thats the most accurate way to check it.
It comes on when the sensor send a signal that the vehicle is not stable on the ground.....check the wheel balancing and alignment and the air pressure of your tires too.
You need 5 quarts in the Lexus RX300. Beware, the RX300 has a history of engine sludge problems (just search the internet for Toyota engine sludge). I would recommend Mobil 1 (this is FULL synthetic) and for viscosity I would recommend 5w-30 in the winter and 10w-30 in the summer. Your manual will verify the viscosity that I have mentioned. You must use good engine oil with this vehicle or else you will have an engine sludge problem and this could cost you a new engine. The RX300 is a wonderful vehicle and very reliable, but it requires some care that you must give it or else it will cost you a lot of money and maybe leave you stranded. For instance, change the oil regularly (no more than 4000 mile intervals) and also change the transmission fluid (no more than 60000 mile intervals). Search online for transmission failures in the RX300 - you'll find that the people who did not get a transmission flush were very sorry!!
getting harder to lexus and toyota to take care of this problem. I have repaired many of them when i worked for lexus. I would car the 1-800 num. for leaxus support.
The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is clogged. This part feeds air to the engine at start-up and idle when the throttle bodies are closed. I removed the throttle body assembly from my 2001 RX300 and separated it from the IAC. After a good cleaning with throttle body cleaner the IAC was good as new. I later decided to replace it during routine maintenance. You can pick up a brand new IAC on eBay (genuine Lexus/Toyota part). The dealer will want upwards of $400.00 for a 45 minute job (all you need are basis hand tools).
yes there is, take it to the dealer.
check your user manual in how to reset the light
