Question about 2007 Suzuki XL-7

1 Answer

Suzuki XL2008 would not start

When I tried to start the vehicle it's not turning over. The horn and lights on the dashboard works. Sounds like a gear grinding in the back of the vehicle. The last time I tried to start it the key got stuck in the ignition. I replaced the battery also.

Sometimes this is a bad ignition switch...if not, try this:

This procedure usually works:
·Check the battery cable connections:
Make sure the negative cable makes a good ground connection at the battery and (preferably) at the engine. Make sure the positive cable, makes a good connection at the battery and at the starter.

·Check the battery the simple way, like this:
Turn on the headlights, then try to start the car.If the headlights do not dim or go out, then the battery is likely ok.

·Check the starter and solenoid:
If the wiring looks ok, then look at the starter solenoid for a good connection, and proper voltage at the starter(10 volts minimum while cranking).
If the starter spins and no crank, the problem is most likely the Solenoid's pinion gear is stuck.
Have someone hit (not too hard) the starter while you try to start the car. This usually works by dislodging a stuck pinion gear.
·Make a simple test of the alternator:
If you can, somehow get the engine running, measure the voltage at the battery. It should be at least 13.6 volts to properly charge the battery.

SOURCE: key gets stuck in ignition

My daughter drives a Suzuki, my solution to her is: while the gear shift lever is in park, lightly put pressure on the gear shift lever, through the park position and while pressing the gear shift towards park light rock left to right while trying to remove the key.

The interlock between the transmission and the ignition switch needs to be adjusted/ repaired or replaced.

SOURCE: My 07 Suzuki Forenza wont start unless you tap

I think you have a bad neutral safety switch. This switch is located on the transmission and keeps the car from starting while in gear.Soon, tapping on the shifter will not work - you need to change ( or have changed) the switch before it strands you somewhere. Is it still under warranty or did you get the extended warranty from the dealer? It should be covered if the answer to either is yes. Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

Changed rack and pinion. when turning wheel to right horns started blowing. unplugged airbags and horn stopped. drove truck for 1 day now wont start and dome light is blinking and warning lights on dash...

It sounds like you disturbed the wiring or the connector inside the lower portion (inside the cabin, under the dashboard) of the steering column. You may have also pinched wiring higher inside the steering column, up near the horn button. You'll need to track it all down & correct the wiring problems in (and around) the steering column.

Engine will not start. Battery was dead so I put a battery charger on it. Now the lights, dash board lights, horn and power locks works but engine wont start

Hi Judy,

I need more info - does the engine make any sound when you try to start it - does it turn over or does nothing happen?

If there is a clunking sound from the bottom of the engine then it may be your starter motor is stuck. If this is the case then put the vehicle in gear (make sure you are on a flat/level road surface) and release the hand brake. Rock the car forwards and backwards from the front five or six times and then reapply the hand brake, and after putting it in neutral, try to start it again. If it starts then the starter motor 'Bendix' drive is getting worn or dirty and is in need of a clean or replacement.

If there isn't a clunking sound to start with then let me know more detail of what happens when your try to start the engine. Such as any sounds or clicks etc. coming from the car.

2001 suzuki grand vitara...won't start (new batt.),won't go in gear nothing works ( horn, door locks)

Sounds like a main fuseable link wire has blown providing power to the vehicle. This can be caused by either putting the battery the wrong way around in polarity or faulty battery from new that was charged opposite ( have seen some in my time ). Also just something stupid , please check to see if the battery is ok in voltage. Regards

Lights turn on when car is off, wont engage when started and hazard lights are flashing really fast. had to unhook battery, 03 windstar, any advice

All the thing's your having problems with are computer controlled .The main light switch is a low voltage device , controlled by the instrument cluster . The instrument cluster is connected to the vehicle control moduel system via the SCP - standard corporate protocol , messages are put out on the data network to other modules to control lighting ! The (REM) rear electronic module an the (FEM) front electronic module .
010 Ford SCP Communications
You could look for a loose connection (ground ) But your best bet take it to a qualified repair shop (ford )
