What size socket do I use to remove a front rotor?


You don't need a socket. The rotor is held by a torx flathead screw. I stripped mine and drilled it out. It is not necessary. Remove the brakes and this little screw from the rotor and it will come off. If it won't. you need to watch a you tube video about removing a stuck rotor. It is fairly simple. But hard to explain in words.

you need a impact driver .it is a tool you hit with a hammer with a philips head on it .when you hit it the end turns .giving enough pressure whithout striping the screw

Can't get the rear driver's side brake rotor off the hub. Took off caliper, shoes, no problem. Two retaining screws on front of rotor, off with a bit of effort, but now off. Emergency brake is released....


Try taking a large steel hammer and striking flat of rotor in between the lug bolts go around 3 or 4 times while use the other hand to apply outward off pressure it should pop off. By the way trow the rubber hammer away

How to take back rotors off a 1994 honda civic.


PATH: Brakes > Front Disc Brakes > Brake Disc (Rotor) > Removal & Installation Removal & Installation
  1. Raise and support the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the front wheels.
  2. Remove the caliper assembly; do not let the caliper assembly hang by the brake hose, instead support it with a piece of wire looped around the front spring or control arm.
  3. Remove the retaining screw from the brake rotor and remove the rotor from the hub.

An impact driver, No. 3 phillips screwdriver bit, and a hammer may be needed to remove the retaining screw. It is fairly easy to destroy the screw slots using an ordinary phillips screwdriver to remove the tightly driven screw (see photo).

  1. To install the disc, replace the disc on the hub, screw in the retaining screw and replace the caliper assembly.

  6. Install the rotor in position. Install the two 6mm retaining screws.
  7. Install the brake caliper. Install the tire and wheel assembly.

03 Kia Rio- can not get retaining screws off rotor...screws now stripped


hi from uk the retain screws are for holding the rotor/disc in position so when wheel bolts are removed they can be easily refitted as rotor will not move off line the screws play no part in brakes and the wheel bolts or nuts are what secure the wheels and rotors in place SO if screw head has stripped ? you can use a drill with bit size of head of screw and drill the head off screw then remove rotor you can then try vice grips to remove screw but if not possible you can fit rotor and reassemble brakes hope this helps

On a 1995 chevrolet 2500 4wd what size nut holds on your rotor


The rotors on chevrolets are held on by the caliper and the lug nuts. You do not have to remove the cv shaft nut. Remove the wheel, remove the caliper bracket with caliper, and there may be a little retaining clip on one of the lugnut studs. Break this off, and discard(you don't need to replace), and the rotor will come right off, and on occasion will need persuasion from the **** end of a hammer, or a dead-blow hammer, or such. Again, removing the cv/driveshaft retaining nut will not do you any good, and must be replaced with each removal.

Varvah, front rotor: Jack up the car, put on safety stands, remove wheel, remove caliper mounting bolts (2), hang caliper in place w/ bungy cord, rope, etc. so you don't stress the brake line, remove caliper mounting bracket bolts, remove bracket from rotor, remove retaining screws on the front of the rotor, remove rotor. If it's stuck, get 2 - 8x 1.25 mm screws (longer version of what u removed), tighten them in the rotor, they will push it off easily. Reverse to install, tighten bracket to 80 ft lbs, caliper to 20 ft lbs. Let me know if u need more info. Countrycurt0

Replacing the rear rotors on a 2003 E320


So this is what it takes to replace rear brake rotors on a 2003 Mercedes E320;
1) open the bonnet (hood) of the car and loosen/remove the cap off of the brake fluid resevior.
2) remove outer spring clamp from brake assembly (it clips in to the iner edge of the holes of the caliper).
3)using a 7 MM allen wrench, remove the brake caliper.
4) using 18 MM box wrench, remove the caliper housing assembly off of the wheel hub.
5) using a star wrench, unscrew the rotor locking screw from the rotor
6) squirt some liquid wrench on the rotor hub and knock the rotor with a hammer to work the liquid wrench in.
7) using the same hammer, knock the rotor off the hub.
8) using a metal file, lightly file old residue off of the hub and place the new rotor on the hub.
9) set the hub by screwing in the lug nuts and then screw in the hub locking screw using the star wrench, then remove the lug nuts.
10) reinstall the caliper housing assembly onto the wheel hub using the 18 MM box wrench.
11) push back the brake claiper piston to its home position and install the inner brake pad (the one with the snap clips)
12) insert the outer brake pad in the claper housing assembly.
13) slide on the caliper housing with the inner brake pad in place (over the outer brake pad) and screw in the caliper screw rods using the 7 MM allen wrench
14) on the right wheel brakes, DO NOT FORGET to slide in the brake sensor (the one with the black connector) and connect it to the connector on the caliper housing.
15) be sure to reinsert the spring clamp onto the outer brake assembly to set the assembly squarely onto the wheel (there should be no wiggle in the brake assembly after the spring clamps are installed).
16) finally mount the wheels.
17) you can bleed the brakes at this point to release any trapped air (which is unlikely) but be sure to pump the brakes after starting the car BUT BEFORE MOVING IT to re-preassurize the brake system before driving the car.
17) ONE WEEK LATER - recheck brake assembly to ensure all is okay and brake fluid.

This proposed solution is for a 2003 Mercedes Benz E320 and NOT a 2005 model as stated by the limited option selection provided by FIXYA.com when initially describing the problem.
