1989 F150 wiper motor growls and the wipers are slower than normal plus they stop & start randomly

My F150 wipers start and stop at random, they do it both on low, high, and delay. The motor growls when turned on. I pulled the cowl vent and the linkage looked fine. The motor appears to be weak. Will replacing the motor solve the problem?

SOURCE: 1998 f150 ford wipe linkage

I had a similar problem the plastic in front of the windshield is the cowl. to remove it I had to pop plastic cover over nuts holding wiper arms. remove them then remove all the screws and two plastic pop retainers and a rubber strip and a number of slide on clips to remove the two piece cowl then remove the electrical plug on the motor and three hex head screws holding the assembly in place (if you extend the linkage toward passenger side it will be easier to remove the assembly) you can get
replacement bushings on line at www.rockauto.com I couldn't find them locally here but did find them
on line . the ones I got are wiper linkage bushings help part no 49451 they are difficult to remove so I cut the worn ones off then used a proper sized socket and c clamp to install the new ones

SOURCE: Delay wipers don't work.

Try making sure the connection is good.
If it is then you should try replacing the wiper switch.

SOURCE: Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement

Nope, but you have to position the linkage in just the right position so that it will clear the windshield glass and the brackets that are located below the windshield.
Thanks,

SOURCE: ever since i replaced the wiper motor on 2003

try this fix
remove wiper arms from where they connect on car
turn wiper moter on then off. turn ignition off
if wiper motor is good it should put spline in off position and now all you need to do is replace wiper arms in the correct position they would be in when wipers are turned off

The module is built into the wiper motor. Replace the wiper motor. Corrosion gets in it and causes malfunctions.

Wiper in front hesitates and stops randomly

loose fuse?
loose conn to wiper?
bad switch.?
bad wiper motor?
or just icing up, was it?
we use what is called a volt meter, we measures the voltage
at the wiper, if it drops out , work back.

we never guess. we use the meter. and find it every time.
no mater... I also check motor current for excessive.
motors do rarely short. but we know that and check for it.
about 10 amps, is normal. it will blow the fuse if it shorts.
but some cars, have the wrong fuse there. and some have 2 problems. (corrosion resistance)

2000 Saturn SL2 wipers stop working

it could be the wiper relay or the wiper motor could be heating up and stoping causing it to work again when it cools down either case start with relay and if that does not fix the problem replase the wiper motor

Wiper blades will not home.

The home position is a function of the wiper motor. You need a new one.

99 Yukon windshield wipers sometimes won t turn on and other time stop after working

We had the same problem and sometimes they wouldn't turn off. The intermittent wipers were random. We replaced the wiper motor. Be sure to get the motor with two balls on the wiper shaft (one for each wiper arm). If you can't find it, you'll have to change the part out on the new motor. Keep the wiper arms in the same location on removal, or it will jam and you'll have to start over.

Two Things: Wipers randomly don't work at all, or go too long and fuel gauge not working.

Hi chuck. I red your problem.
I anderstand your problem is electrical.

OK.On Chevy wiper motors have a defect " I called"
But the problem is the Wiper module or Wiper board,
That goes inside of the wiper motor. it's cost on dealer about $ 40 or around 20 to 35 on Autoparts.
Is easy to replace it. no need to take out the wiper motor.
Just remove the little torx screw on the black tap and take out
You will see the module.
I hope this work for you.
