POSSIBLE SOLUTION!! There's a seperate Tilt button and a seperate Open/Close button. Hold the Tilt buton up and the Open/Close button up at the same time WHILE THE CAR IS ON. And then turn your car off while still holding the buttons. Then turn your car back on and it should work like brand new again. This re-programs the sunroof.

If this workds for you please email at to let me know thanks and GOOD LUCK!!!!

SOURCE: sunroof does not close

I can't tell you how to close it manually but I think you should do a couple of other things first.
Remember I am not there to help you and I am only trying to help so be kind with your rating of me if my ideas fail,
Check the fuses first. It may say sun roof on the diagram on the cover of thefuse box which is probably under the dash.
If it does not say sun roof i don't know what else it would be called.
Just check all the fuses one by one if the diagram doesn't help. You will be looking for a burnt fuse. there is a wire on the inside that will look melted oe burnt. replace it with the same amp type that came out of it. Keep checking the rest of the fuses even if you find a bad one. Sometimes more then one blows at the sametime. If all the fuses are good or your replaced a bad one and it still doesn't work then I will have you check the switch. Yo7u can take the switch out and pull the two wires off remembering where they went. There may be three wires but only pull two off at a time. You want to touch two together using different combinations until the roof closes or trys to move. if this works then it is your switch. Be sure to have the key on in the on position while testing this. it will not shock you so don't worry. If the ends of the switch wires are coverd then you will need to get a wire that you can bend and put in to the two ends conncting them to make a good circuit. The must touch metal to metal. If all the combinations fail then it may be a bad motor after all.
So these are my ideas, I hope I got lucky and saved you tons of cash, Raz

Hyundai sunroof

If the motor is gone you may have to disconnect it and manually move it . Tough luck man you don't want that to leak. I'd make sure the fuse and relay was good first then check the switch. You could always access the motor and try to direct wire the motor to see if you can get it to move if none of these work like I said earlier disconnect and manually close it. Good luck.

My sunroof won't close

Some sunroofs have a open switch like the drivers window. You push it and the window will open automaticly. The button on your sunroof could be jammed so even though you can close it as soon as you release it, it will auto open on it's own.

I can't open the sunroof on my 2000 hyundai sonata. When I push the ope or close buttons it makes a loud noise like something is jammed but it doesn't budge. What can be the problem?

Without actually inspecting it, I recommend you take it to an authorized Hyundai Service Department and have it properly diagnosed -- impossible to tell here.

Bougth an 08 Sonata new with sunroof.... from day 1 sunroof rattles with slider open. Hyundai has treid to fix it twice but can't. Meeting dist. mgr next month.... have spent over 2 yrs. with this...

First you wouldn't sell it, unless you own it outright, don't like it or want to spend cash on another vehicle,so you can start watching it depreciate from day one.

Have you asked the dealer to bring in a factory field rep to work on it or assist the dealer techs?

Have they considered getting authorization to just replace the entire sunroof? Not eveyone with that vehicle could be having the same issues.

In the end you will be figuring it out yourself, after the warrantee expires. Been there. That is why I have done all my own repairs since 1963. 47 years
