Fuel gage showing half a tank but trip computer only registering 60 miles left

Its very simple. If the gauge is showing half full then fill the tank and see how much fuel it takes. If the amount you add is approximately 50 percent of the fuel tank capacity then you know the fuel gauge is accurate . In that case the computer is giving an inaccurate reading and should be ignored. All you need is an accurate fuel gauge - it does not matter a row of beans what the computer says if the fuel gauge is reading correctly.

I just replaced the fuel pump in my 1996 explorer and fuel filter and put 5 gals of gas back in the tank now the fuel guage is registering full and will not work

Eewww. That's not good. And you're not going to like what I say. I think you bent the fuel gauge sender unit, or misaligned something when you put it back in tank. Try unplugging the connector and plugging it back in. See if that helps the gauge to register right. Here's a quick check to see if your dash gauge is working right: Unplug connector again at tank and use a jumper wire to ground the dash gauge sender wire. With key turned to on and the fuel gauge wire grounded, the gauge should jump up to half or full. If it does, there's a problem with your sender unit in the tank.

1999 Isuzu Rodeo: the amount of gas in truck does not register on the meter. What could the problem be.

There could be a poor connection or an open circuit between the power control module and the fuel gauge sender, or the fuel gauge sender itself is bad. The sender is mounted to the gas tank and usually can be replaced without dropping the tank.

Just purchased a 97 chev 3500 series pu with dual fuel tanks. Don't know how to switch from front to rear tank. there is no switch

There is no switch. What you have is a "transfer pump" that moves fuel from the rear tank to the front tank as required, so that you get a smooth declining indication of fuel left on the gauge in the dash.

If the transfer pump goes bad, any fuel in the rear tank will not be pumped to the front tank so you'll only be running on the front tank.

The fuel level indicator is on the front tank, so the gauge will still accurately register the amount of fuel in the front tank.

Gas guage doesnt work

It sounds like a problem with the fuel gauge sender unit in the fuel tank which has worn out and gone open circuit and needs replacing. Access to the unit is usually through a removable plate in the floor in the rear of the vehicle. Disconnect the wiring connector and any hoses and then remove the securing screws. Replacement is done by reversing procedure.

The gas gage on my 2002 deville does not register correctly. I never know how much gas I have. What are the problem areas to consider?

The problem is either a faulty fuel sending unit located inside of the fuel tank, the wiring between the fuel sending unit and the fuel gauge, or the fuel gauge itself is malfunctioning.

A good repair shop can find out for you which one is at fault by dis-connecting the wiring connector to the fuel sending unit and then use an adjustable ohms box to simulate the fuel sending unit, and the fuel gauge should read at a certain level of fuel according to the amount of ohms being put through the wire.

Fuel gauge not give proper reading.. register full

Sorry to say,but the fuel sending unit is the problem, the fuel tank will have to be lowered out of the vehicle to replace the unit.If the fuel sending unit is not available by itself you will have to replace the whole fuel pump assembley.

I have a 2005 Saturn Relay. Everytime we fill-up

Some of these GM's have a seperate fuel guage relay under the dash. Their not cheap. Since you could have anything from a bad sender in the tank to a bad relay its best to leave this to a professional. Next time this happens try smacking the fuel tank a few times hard. If the gauge goes up its most likely a sender in the tank issue. If nothing happens then it really needs to be diagnosed correctly.

2006 envoy gas gage

your gas gauge sensor is most likley the problem on alot of new cars they measure your fuel off an average of were your float is at. like if your not moving it stays in one spot but as you move the float moves and reads the lowest amout that it is averaging and if your float keeps reading low your going to read that you have alot less gas than you really do. have you tried filling the tank all the way and see what it does? if it stays at full until you use some gas and your float starts moving your gas gauge will probley go down in that case its the fuel sensor if this dont help let me know and ill c what i can find out for you

1989 F150 4x4 gas tank leaked (rear tank) had it replaced , ran out of gas today @ half tank register on gauge, also oil pressure gauge fluxauting from normal to o. Is it a bad ground, if so where is the...

When replacing the fuel tank often mechanics dont check the gauge, it can be damaged when reinstalling it or if it came with the sendor in it already, often they get knocked around in shipping making them read wrong. And in the shop we always check the oil pressure with a live gauge . you can get one at a local parts store pretty cheap, it comes with a new sending unit and all, and the sending unit is the ground, the gauge has a continuous hot and the sending unit applies a amount of ground to allow the needle to climb.
