The manual transmission uses a mainshaft that is locked in 4th and gives the 1:1 ratio. The rest of the gears come off the input shaft of transmission to a counter gear cluster then back up to output shaft. Either the input shaft gear or the gear on the counter shaft is stripped. That would cause the only fourth gear drive.

Purchase a gear shift repair kit for your car. They are pretty cheap. About 20 bucs. The ball and bushings are probably worn.

Mk 7 transit only drives in 4th gear just revs like being in neutral in all other gears including reverse. Is this a clutch problem

A clutch problem would most likely show up in all gears. Does the vehicle have normal performance in 4th gear, or does it act like the clutch is slipping? If it behaves normally in 4th, you have a problem with the transmission.

2007 Chevy Avalanche 3rd and 4th gear are not working

From what you are describing, it is possible either the 3-4 actuator is no longer playing with the 3rd & 4th clutch packs, only way to know for certain is to hook up the good ol' pressure gauge to trans. system, yeah, you think the Chevrolet dealer should know this right?

Sell it now if you can!

If 4th gear is good, no slipping, then your transmisson is toast. Replace with a known good working one.

Engine works, but my car won't move when I give it gas.

Could be your clutch or the cable from the shifter has a plastic piece that is easily broken that wont allow proper gear placement

Transmisson problems

Try checking the transmission fluid level first to see i it is full and then look at changing the filter and gasket on the transmission and if you still have you will need to take it to atransmission shop to have it loked at, but try the things I mentioned first okay.

I need to know the timing chain specs for a 2001 chevy tracker?

i have done a few timing chains, you should go get a manual so you can go back and reference when you need to. I can tell you this "do not" move the cam or crank when the belt or chain is off. Hope it helps
