SOURCE: I have a 1999 honda Accord EX. The engine check

  • If you can please list the code that was read and also the symptoms for me I may be able to give more specifics on the code itself. As for a misfire in any cylinder I will lists some things that are indicative of this.

  1. Spark Bad fuel injector
  2. plug
  3. Plug wire
  4. Coil
  5. bad 02 sensor
  6. bad computer.
  7. out of gas
  8. bad catalytic computer
  9. burned exhaust valve
  10. poor compression.

  • Symptoms can be a hard to start engine.
  • Hesitation or bucking when accelerating.

  • A rotten egg smell from the exhaust can indicate a bad Catalytic Converter.
  • If it has been a long time since a tune up then plugs and wires may be in order.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

Dodge durango chugging constantly, idle steady, lights dim with chug and engine light flashed 3 times when tried to accelerate at about 50 mph

A flashing check engine light means there is a serious problem (as opposed to a steady light which means there's a problem). You need to have the stored codes read before trying to figure out what's wrong. Most auto parts stores will read codes for free. Then simply Google your make and model and the code and you will probably get a few results that will point you in the right direction.

When the check engine light is turn on, the PCM is advise that some fault code is there; you need scanned the PCM to know exactly what fault code is stored there.

With this code number could send adittional details and solution tips.

Keep in touch.

Went to inspection yesterday and my Avalon passed then later that day my engine light came on

The inspectors had to remove your fuel cap to inspect it and might have failed to put it back on tight enough. This is a common problem and will cause your "check engine light" to come on. Check the tightness of the cap and then take your car to any major auto parts store and have them read out the stored trouble code that was set when the check engine light came on. They will do this for free. Copy down the code(s) and then have them erased. This will reset the check engine light. Check the code(s) at the store to see if it corresponds to a loose fuel cap. If so, your problem is solved.

If not, you lucked out and passed your inspection just before a problem cropped up! Use the codes you copied down and get code definitions at the auto parts store. This is the place to start for diagnosing the problem.

I just bought 2000 S70 Volvo from an auction yesterday, it drives smoothly but i noticed something like a hesitation in shift in gears, particularly, from 1 to 2, I believe. The check engine lights is...

If the check engine light is on, there is probably a code stored in it that could point you in the right direction as far as diagnosing the driveability problem. Have it scanned at Autozone or Advance Auto Parts, or buy your own obd-II scanner. Dipstick missing would probably not make a code set. The missing problem could have caused a code to be stored in the computer. The car radio code can be obtained from the dealer or an online source.

Good luck with this.

My car is turned off- but i notice a yellow light is flashing on the dash-what is that?

Probably the check engine light or service engine soon light, indicating a fault code has occurred shutting down the engine. Recommend you get it scanned at a large parts retailer or dealership to better diagnose the trouble code. There are hundreds of different codes and hundreds of different causes for a stalled engine.

Check engine light is on in the dash what could possible solution Be?

The check engine light illuminates when the vehicle has a problem that causes poor exhaust emissions and or a destructive symptom that could ause permanent damage. A flashing check engine light means the problem is real serious like a constant misfire. If you take it to your local autozone store they will scan the ECM for you for free and give you their reccomendations to resolve the problem. Thanks, I hope this helps you out, Rich

Hi:
Usually the only thing that causes a blinking check engine light is a cylinder misfire. Usually this is caused by a failed ignition module, but to find out specifically, might take some guessing, or a computer download. You can scan the car's computer system, anf find out what codes are tripped. Most auto parts stores, like autozone, will do this for free. If you detect a cylinder misfire code, or similar, that is what you need to get fixed..
