You will have to have the fault codes read by a code reading machine . That will tell you why the engine stopped. I am suggesting that you check to see if the cam shaft is turning when you try to start it as the timing belt may be broken. Repair/replace items listed by the codes -reset the CPU with the code reader

This is because there is no voltage on pin 16 in the DLC and so the scan tool cannot be powered ON. Most of the scanners have 12 VDC input port by which the scanner can be powered and the car can be scanned.

Where is the plug to the check enginge light


GM OBD connectors are under the dash in the driver's area on most cars.Keep in mind,an '89 is an OBD1 system(GM specific)---OBDII (standard for all vehicles in the U.S.) wasn't in use until 1996,so you will need to use a shorting clip to read the codes through the check engine light,unless you have a GM compatible scan tool.(I can't remember which two pins in the connector need to be shorted,but I do remember they are side by side to each other in one of the corners of the plug).

Ok.. I got in the car this morning.. went to the store & the car started to sputter .. when i went to 3rd gear it sputtered like it wasn't getting gas??


Maybe the gas gauge is not correct and it did run out of gas?? Otherwise read the following.

The Engine and Automatic Transmission (not applicable to manual transmissions) in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM and TCM (Power Train Control Module, Transmission Control Module). When a problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. Also always check fuel pressure for correct spec for your make and engine type.

Need pin locations for analdl connector for a 1996 pontic grand am


Below is a wirinf diagram for the plug. I wasn't sure which engine you had so I went with the 3.1 liter engine. If you need the one for the 4 cylinder or if you need this one bigger (this is the largest I can post on here do to size limits) you can email me at csautomotivecars@att.net but remind me of the make model year and engine size. I had my air shocks converted. Afterward, my gas gauge malfunctioned-not correct reading on gas or mileage. I was told after the conversio of the shocks, the cable near the tank wasn't connected back.


I believe the connector for the fuel pupm is the same as for the fuel gage. oN TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. Check for a broken or melted wire going to the fuel tank.

Yea, this codes means a problem with your VVTI Bank2, this controls valve timing to get the most eficiency and power possible, you need to take it to a dealer ship for proper diagnostic, it can get expensive, hope you did chance your oil frecuently,

1999 ford windstar check engine light


had the same problem with my 1999 Windstar. The part's store told me that it's on the same fuse as the ignition switch. So I ruled out a fuse issue because everything else on my ignition was working just fine. They suggested I run a new hot wire to the connector. That didn't sound right to me. A couple of weeks later my alternator went. After I replaced it, the OBD II now reads just fine.

The above descriptions of the connector are very good. I washed the engine compartment yesterday, and immediately started getting the reduced enginer power code on the CIC, not performance. After reading several posts, I checked the connector on my 2003 2500HD, and found that the connector was not seated well and had gotten water in it. I cleared the water and the reconnected. The cables running from the fuse box to the connector are so short, the connector is in a bind and is pulled off-center. That is why the connector wasn't seated properly. The code went away, and the performance returned. By the way, be sure to do this after pulling the negative cable on your battery.
