Question about 2008 Chevrolet TrailBlazer LT
Stabilitrack icon comes on frequently while driving and the indicator instructs you to seek service. Next startup the indicator is off. The next startup and some driving the icon frequently comes on again, no real pattern. Can you do harm by driving with the icon on? In northern Michigan we often drive with the auto or 4wheel drive selection. How important to get this serviced? Thanks, Tom Whittingham.

Probably going to be the steering wheel position sensor. Keep track of how you park, keep wheel straight when you park will keep the light off. Most of us just live with it and park with wheels straight.

The system will need to be scanned for "trouble codes" These are codes that are stored in the computer systems to give an indication as to where the problem is.

The 4WD in this vehicle is computer controlled. There will be diagnostic codes stored that will aid in proper diagnosis and repair of this problem. As there are several common / expensive failure items, it is best to have the codes read using a proper scanner. Some of the cheaper code readers may not work in this instance and a more professional scanner may be needed to retrieve the codes. Once you know the codes, a better, accurate diagnosis can be made.
FWIW - The encoder motor on the transfer case is a common failure item. The instrument panel switch module is also.
