P0496 Code evaporative emission system

Compliance with emission regulations means vapours from the engine crankcase and fuel tank can no longer be vented to the atmosphere as in the old days so excess fuel vapours from the tank are collected in a canister filled with carbon and then released into the engine air intake when the engine management programme decides is the optimum conditions for doing so.

The venting or purging operation is controlled by the ECU operating an electrical or solenoid valve and on some vehicles this can be heard pulsing when the engine is hot and idling.

Most problems with the system are caused by faulty wiring, connectors, the valve itself or the ECU. If the system is sophisticated the ECU might expect to record a slightly richer air/fuel mixture during venting and so if there is problems with the pipework or canister enrichment might not happen and be recorded as a fault.

USB Not sure if this is the right site.....I have just brought a CTS 2008 and it has a usb port for my iphone. When I connect it it does not register and will not play via the...HHD and I would like to...

I do not know the particulars of the CTS, but most USB´s will recognize the music files and folders only, but will not operate the iphone remotely unless the software needed is loaded. IPODs are designed so you can record music unto them, but you can not extract it, record from it, just listen to it, so probably, Iphones operate the same way.
