SOURCE: mercury grand marquis

it is on the fender near the battery and is also referred to as the starter solenoid (if you follow the large wire from the positive terminal of the battery at the other end will be your relay/solenoid)
hope this helps!

SOURCE: need to change starter

Should be under the engine on the passenger side of the engine right next to the transmission. It is about the size of large size juice can, is normally black with a smaller rounded thing with wires attatched called the soinoid. Most ford soiniods have an unplug plastic connection. You need to unhook all wires, and I think this starter has two bolts while a few have 3. Dont know which engine you have, so I am just giving you the general information. You will need tools like sockets, socket extension, rachet, a hand wrench set will also maybe come in handy as well as a couple of screwdrivers like at least one of each. Normally you will need to jack up and block the car up and put on jackstand as well as setting the brake, putting in park, and blocking all wheels also. You can look on the autozone website in the repair section to help, and you can also buy a complete starter from the parts house which will tell you the bolt locations, what it looks like, etc. hope this helps you, rick

SOURCE: where are the spark plugs located on a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis

There are eight COPs (coil-on-plugs) to remove. Using a 7mm or 9/32" socket, remove each bolt securing each COP to the intake manifold on top of the engine. Remove all eight COPs, and the spark plugs are underneath. When replacing the spark plugs, use only the proper Ford/Motorcraft plugs, even if they cost twice as much as the aftermarket ones. You will avoid further headaches this way. Hope this helps.

You need to go from both battery terminals,
& use relays, etc, separate from any of the cars
factory wiring, or you will have problems

Also, I doubt the alternator can handle the increased
current. That will present an even bigger challange

My mother put a new battery in her 1986 Grand Maquis in December. She doesn't drive it more than once a week, but the battery keeps going dead. AAA came and wouldn't even jump it because he said the...

I am not familiar with an 86 Grand Marquis. Does it have a V-8 or 6 cylinder engine? Those capacity numbers might be okay for a 6, but would probably be too low for a V-8.

Driving the car once a week is not good, as far as a battery is concerned. Has she had the alternator checked? If you have a multi-meter, you can check the voltage of the battery. A fully charged 12 volt battery should have somewhere around 12.5 to 12.6 volts when the engine is not running. With the engine running, the voltage should be over 13 volts because of the charge coming from the alternator.

Take the car to an auto parts store and have them check the battery and alternator. Most places do this at no charge.

My advice to anyone buying a battery is to get the biggest battery that will fit the space available, while making certain that the + and - terminals are properly oriented. In dealing with batteries, bigger is better.
