SOURCE: How do i take the clutch fan off to get to the water pump

sometimes there are bolts on the fan clutch or one big bolt that is reverse threaded and requires a big wrench or special tool to get off. leave belt on engine and hit wrench with hammer to loosen and spin off by hand.

SOURCE: Pulling a fan clutch assembly from a GMC 4.3 water pump?

First remove the fan from the clutch. There should be four to six bolts holding the fan to the clutch. The clutch is held on to the pump with four bolts. remove the four bolts to remove the clutch. I've included a pic of the pump to indicate the four mounting holes. Not sure if the link will work.

After replacing the fan clutch and water pump do i have to reprogram the computer on a 2003 gmc envoy?

No! there is nothing to reprogram. The sensors in the coolant system and the temp sensor for the fans dont need to have anything done to them. If you are not getting any check engine light, you are good.

I replace the fan clutch and the water pump and its still making a clicking noise, what can this problem be?

Maybe the fan is hitting the shroud. Did you check the serpentine belt for fraying or damage?

Replace flan clutch and water pump and alternator but still makes a clicking noise, what can cause this problem?

A brand new out of the box fan clutch did this to me. Ticks are driving me crazy. It's probably your new fan clutch unfortunately. Mine was purchased at Autozone if this helps.

New fan clutch making clicking noise, what can cause this problem?

There is a bearing in the fan clutch and it may be faulty. check that the fan blades are not touching on the shroud . Check that the water pump bearing is good.

Your fan clutch could be going out...iin other words, it may be turning, appearing to be fine, but not fast enough therefor, not cooliing the engine enough.

2004 gmc envoy. has a 6cyl and a serp belt. the center pully off set to the left (i think its a water pump) has a bad wobble and making a horrible noise. Not over heating and no leaks. should i just change...

If the fan is attached to it than it is the water pump making the noise and it will need to be replaced. If the fan clutch is not attached to it than it is either the idler pulley or the tensioner pulley. The tensioner is on the passenger side (left) of the front of the motor.

Pulley making noise, little paly in it fan clutch?

Shut the engine off and let it cool down. Then reach in and try to turn the fan. It should move smoothly with some resistance. If it's loose, doesn't move smoothly, or just spins easily. It's time to change it. It is threaded onto the water pump and takes a semi special tool to unbolt. Also, it's a left hand thread. What concerns me though is that you say the pulley is making noise. If it's making noise, and there's "play" in it. It very well may be the water pump.

2004 gmc envoy engine tapping sound, it has plenty of water/antifreeze, and plenty of oil.

We have the same tapping sound on our 2003 Envoy six cylinder engine. I believe the sound is coming from the radiator fan clutch assembly. When the engine reaches its operating temperature and the fan clutch engages, the tapping sound goes away.
