SOURCE: Head bolt torque specs needed for 96 tbird 3.8

Head bolts are torque to yeild so you MUST use new bolts.
Tighten cylinder head retaining bolts in numerical sequence in three steps as follows:

  1. 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
  1. 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
  1. 50 Nm (37 lb-ft)
Loosen retaining bolts one at a time two to three revolutions and retighten as follows:

Long bolts:
  • Tighten to 40-50 Nm (30-37 lb-ft).
  • Rotate an additional 175-185 degrees.
  • Go to next bolt in sequence.
Short Bolts:
  • Tighten to 20-30 Nm (15-22 lb-ft).
  • Rotate an additional 175-185 degrees.
  • Go to next bolt in sequence.

Always use new head bolts.
1)tighten to 40ft/lbs
2)back off 1/2 turn
3)tighten back to 40ft/lbs
4)tighten an additional 90 degrees
5)tighten an additional 90 degrees.

Tighten all bolts to 10 Lbs, then 20 Lbs, then 35 Lbs.
That should be fine for the 6 cylinder flywheel.

How to remove the Torque converter from the motor crankshaft of Kia Carnival. The engine is already out c/w the transaxle gearbox, and has been separated. How to remove the torque converter?


look for 4 bolts coming in from the engine side of the flex plate back into the torque converter housing. Once these out out you may have to use a pry bar to get the torque converter out of the spigot in the end of the crankshaft

An automatic doesn't have a flywheel, it has a flex plate instead. The torque converter makes it act a lot like a flywheel, though.

But... you're probably talking about the flex plate or the ring gear around its edge. This is going to require removing the engine from the vehicle - there's no other possible way to get the flex plate out.

Once the engine is sitting on the shop floor, it's a simple job to replace the flex plate - first you unbolt the torque converter and set it aside, then you unbolt the flex plate from the crankshaft. Bolt the new flex plate onto the crankshaft, bolt the torque converter to the new flex plate, and put the engine back into the vehicle.

Is there a certain way you have to line up the torque converter to drive plate bolts? We're switching engines on my car and I don't want to mess anything up when putting the engine and transmission...


there is no set way to line up the converter to the flex plate. Some torque converters run 3 bolts and others 4 so check that before you reassemble. A very important clue to use here is when removing the tranny undo the torque converter from the flex plate and use a suitable restraint to keep the converter on the box shaft. It prevents contaminates from getting into the converter and keeps the converter engaged in the pump drive of the box and makes it a hell of lot easier when assembling up the box to the motor.

Does a torque converter for a 1989 ford bronco trwo have antyhing to do with a fly wheel


The torque converter bolts to the flex plate at the rear of the engine. It supplies the link between the engine to the transmission.

It's known as a "Flex Plate" and not a "Fly Wheel". The flywheel is use on a standard transmission.
