SOURCE: catalytic converter it is a toxic and hazardous

no not toxic. you can sell your old one for around $100. most have platnuim in them. if you remove it it is a federal offense up to $50,000 fine if you are caught. another example of goverment too big. alot of muffler shops will run you a custom exhaust for off road. you do not need the cat for off road.

SOURCE: audi a3 1.8t 99 keeps cutting out and backfires

you may want t check for vacumn leaks to the MAP before you go to the trouble of taking the convertor off also check the MAF i have a feeling the issues you are experiencing are more sensor component related than is catylitic convertor also the air idle motor in the injection system can cause the same problems if the air idle valve is stuck or the ports in the intake manifold are clogged

SOURCE: Catalytic Converter is pluged in

If you hit it a few times with a hammer, it usually frees it enough to run. You may still be able to locate a "test pipe" from a local auto parts store. They were widely available years ago to "test" the exhaust system. Yes, you can remove it and replace it with a "test pipe" or other such pipe and it will run fine. However, it may be against your local or state laws and I don't recommend it. That being said. Thank you for using Fixya.

1999 olds bravada misfires a couple of times before starting

Hello Angela Hylton,

I always go for the fire, fuel & air first... but it starts... so
that's a really great indication... Could just need some fresh spark plugs... (ACDELCO R44LTS6) or a cold start valve ...

(get your OBD codes read FREE (See below).

~~ 4.3L V6 Plugged EXHAUST:

I've never found an elegant way to prove it...
So we'll just jump right into...

GET some liquid wrench Penetrating Oil and
soak the EXHAUST to CATALYTIC converter bolts
really well (couple of times).

If YOU OPEN the exhaust and the engine runs smooth...
you have found a PROBEM that will do both thing you are experiencing...

Now you have to figure if it is the CAT collapsing or a
MUFFLER BAFFLE blocking the out-flow.

(It's
happened to me twice... but I'm pretty old)
((
one converter & one muffler))

FREE... (
to get you in the door)

Might be easier just to take it to a muffler shop...
and
have them run your engine codes...

If you live in CALIFORNIA... we have DIFFERENT
parts, costs & requirements (of course).

((
Somebody's BROTHER-IN-LAW is getting rich)).

But look up your prices on line... FIRST.
(know your prices BEFORE going in).

Hope this helps!!

2000 olds bravada runs normal but at stops and idle i hear alot of raddeling and vibrations. could it be bad catalytic converter?

If you do a lot of city driving then the catalytic can fail between 150k to 170k.

It usually start with high heat (RED HOT CAT) ,rotten egg smell and loss of power.

1993 bravada smells like sulfer when ran also backfires and i know the muffler needs to be replaced

The sulfur smell usually means that your fuel mixture is too rich, and the catalytic converter is reacting with the excess fuel. You'll probably need to replace the catalytic converter along with the muffler, but get the fuel mixture problem fixed before you do that. Else you will ruin the new converter.
