It could also be wiring issues that is causing the error detected by the computer. It would be best to have a scanner connected to the diagnostic port of the car. The errors that can be retrieved should accurately identify which part the error occurred. Some shops would let you borrow their scanners.

Engine missis at 2-2 half rpm under load.

Ok, if the car is misfiring it probably has a bad air/fuel mixture which can cause fouled spark plugs. The causes of a bad air/fuel mixture would could be a bad oxygen sensors or a bad engine coolant temp sensor. But that car is known for having bad head gaskets. What is probably happening is coolant and/or oil is leaking into the combustion chamber. you can check under the cars engine, where the head meets the block, for oil or coolant leaks where they attach. Or check the coolant for CO2 with a CO2 tester (found at auto parts store) and check for low oil. If it tests positive for CO2 in the coolant then its a blown head gasket. once you get the problem fixed you will probably need new spark plugs and possibly a catalytic converter (the longer it misfires, the more fuel will be burned on the cat filter and it will enventually melt)

I took my 89 mighty max to get smogged. It wouldn't pass for a few reasons. Co2 emissions were outrageously high and also there was no check engine light? Does an 89 mighty max have a check engine light? I...

not sure about engine light as i dont think it has one at this age but the CO2 is caused by either a O2 sensor of which you will only have one in front of the cat or the cat as well is past its sell by date ,Test the O2 sensor with a automotive meter for readings and continuety in the heater circuit ,but as a rule i change both at the same time as a four wire sensor is not a lot of money ,well a universal one isnt anyway and make sure the air filter is clean ,if they argue about the engine check light then go to dealer and ask for a copy of the certificate of homoglonation as this will state if it has a light or not

Service engine light

service engine light on Nissan will not damage the car in any manner, however you gas mileage may change slightly. Service engine light can be numerous of issue. Fist I would change the Co2 sensor, 99% that will be the main issue, most people don't realize that unit need to be replace every 50-75k miles. if that does not solve the issue than take it to the dealership and have them plug it into their computer and it will spit out a code so mechanic can narrow drown on what need replacing. Running bad gas or running low octane can also cause the light to come on. Before you change Co2 sensor, go to Mobile, Shells, Speedway, gas stations and put in 93 or highest octane gas and go to Automotive store and pick up a STP fuel injectors cleaner, mix it with full tank of gas and run it til next refill and see if that light goes off, if not than change Co2 sensor. I believe that truck has 2 sensor if it a V6. the sensor located on the exhaust pipe before catalyst converter. its easy to fix and replace if you have the tools. if you don't know where the sensor looks like or located on the car, just get the new parts and look compare the old to the new. they run somewhere around 35-40 bucks each. Co2 sensor measure amount of burned gas telling the computer if its running rich or lean, if the sensor goes bad the computer get trip and the light comes on. good luck!!

I have a 2001 Santa Fe and the Engine light is lit and has been for many years. When I took the vehicle for the State Inspection I was told that the Co2 needed to be changed so the light would come off and...

The best thing to do is go to Auto Zone and get your Hyundai scanned for a DTC code. That would tell us which O2 sensor has gone bad. You have three O2 sensors and one of them has gone bad, the O2 sensor sends signals to the ecm to control the air fuel mixture so it will not run to rich or to lean which is causing you to fail the state inspection. Good luck and keep me posted on what the DTC codes are, be glad to help.
