SOURCE: Remove the harmonic balancer without a puller?

You can try simply wiggling the balancer and see if you get lucky. A few taps with a rubber mallet may convince it to come free. Worst case get the kit. You should not need to remove the radiator. Do make sure that you have the engine blocked so you don't lose your timing mark placement.

SOURCE: I have a 97 plymouth

If necessary, use a prying tool to wedge between the engine block and damper spoke hole, then loosen the center bolt.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the right side wheel and tire assembly.
  2. Remove the right inner splash shield.
  3. Remove the accessory drive belts.
  4. Break the crankshaft damper bolt loose, but do not remove it.
  5. To remove the crankshaft damper. If necessary, attach a suitable 3-jawed puller to the crankshaft damper, then tighten the center bolt and remove the damper bolt and damper.
If you broke the inside area, then you need to grab the outside area (if needed after the previous procedure was followed.

I'm trying to remove a harmonic balancer. I've got to the point of taking it off. The pulley remover is placed. But the bolt when completely down only turns the balancer. How to fix please

Are you using a gear puller or an actual harmonic bal. puller? You can use air tools(carefully), or to hold the balancer/pulley still, use a chain wrench with an old belt wrapped around to prevent damage. I would not recommend a 2 or 3 jaw type gear puller.

I just ask the question about tools to change the harmonic balancer the vehicle is a '92 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera 6 cylinder with a 3.3 motor.

This vehicle will require a special puller to remove the balancer once the crankbolt is removed. This bolt is usually 21mm or 22mm in socket size if I remember. You will have to remove the wheel and inner splash sheild to access the bolt. The puller can usually be rented from most auto supply stores for a small fee.

What tools are required to remove pitman arm from steering box on 1983 oldsmobile cutlass supreme?

You need a ,large adjustable wrench,a 9/16 wrench, a hammer, and a pitman arm puller. It is a special tool that you may be able to rent but will probably have to buy (about $60). With the latge nut removed you put the puller on the old pitman arm and tighten it. When it is tight hit the center tightening bolt with the hammer and tighten again. Repeat until the arm comes off.
If you try to do it without the puller you will wreck the seal in the bottom of the steering box and it will leak. Replacing the seal will require removing the pitman arm again. hope this helps.

How do you remove the harmonic balancer on a 1987 GMC R3500 with a 454?

You remove the giant bolt, then you use a harmonic balancer puller, which essentially bolts up rather than using claws to grab. The bolts of the puller go into the pulley fastening bolt holes.

Something must happen to protect the crank threads, a spacer, using the retainer bolt, or whatever, just do not kill the threads.
