At transmission. when u shift car into into neutral it'll die.

When I try putting the car into neutral it'll sometimes just die like it has very few power to support it. Make noises almost like a grind but not. Other then that the car runs fine.

SOURCE: transmission going bad?

popping out of gear means your shifting forks need adjustment, same as the grinding. the tranny is probably good, just the top part, the shifting mechanism needs to be repaired, so it would be cheaper to repair than rebuilding the whole transmision.still, im guessing about 300-500$ depending where you live.

SOURCE: my 2001 kia rio automatic

Check if ur axle in front is moving, if it is moving u got a LOOSE NUT on ur front wheel axle, some front wheel drives have tendency to loosen the nuts holding the axle to turn the wheel. It may also have a damage AXLE, let the mechanic check that! In ur transmission, modern automatic transmission have SLOENOiDS that acts to shift the FLUiD from one gear to another and its not FUNCTiONING. Better bring it to ur nearest dealer to check on that SOLENOiDS Most of the Transmissions today are electronically controlled!

Car stuck in reverse how do I get it back in park

The shifter is connected to a cable that is then attached to a small lever on the transmission. Disconnet the cable at the transmission end and you'll likely be able to physically put it in neutral. Disconnect it at the shifter end and you'll be able to move the shifter to trigger the neutral lockout switch and allow the car to start. You can also short this switch to trick the car into thinking it is in neutral.

Shifter is erratic. wont start in park. drives forward when shifted to reverse, sometimes drives forward when in park. sometimes reverse is neutral (which is good so it will start!!!) what is going on???

It sounds like the linkage at the transmission has come loose. Have someone get inside and move the shift lever from gear to gear so you can see where the linkage is on your transmission. You'll have to climb under ypou truck to see this, on the drivers side. check to see that all the bolts are tight. Your switch that allows you truck to start in Park or Neutral is located there.

1997 Carolla- engine dies when shift to reverse or drive, starts again when put in park. Is this a transmission problem or starter/ignition problem?

There is a switch that only only allows you to start the engine in Park or Neutral. It sounds as if yours is faulty or has a bad connection. Finding it will be the problem.

How do i put my 4x4 on my 95 yukon......on park or neutral. and do i have to put my foot on the brake?

You can shift between 2Hi and 4Hi when the truck is moving. Just let off the gas and shift it. But in order to shift to Neutral or 4Lo you need to stop the truck and shift the transmission into neutral then shift the transfer case.

My 4x4 is stuck in four wheel low it is shift on the fly and i have already replaced the transfer case motor

Ok here is a long shot but sometimes it will work. Put the 4wd position switch to 4wd Lo, put your transmission in reverse and back up for about 50 yards, stop and put your transmission in neutral, then shift the 4wd to 4wd hi, wait a few seconds and shift the 4wd to 2wd hi, Sometimes the t-case will get stuck and this is how you reset the computer. I have known people that really got their t-cases messed up because they thought that shift on the go meant that they could shift the t-case into 4wd LO while moving but shift on the go is only for 4wd hi the gears will not mesh up fast enough for 4wd LO because the ratio is 1 to 1 . I hope this helps you.

I CAN NOT SHIFT THR TRANS INTO NUTRAL SO I CAN TOW IT BEHIND MY MOTOR HOME. IT WILL SHIFT INTO 2H, 4H, 4L

Shifting to NEUTRAL
To shift the transfer case to NEUTRAL, first make sure
the vehicle is parked so that it will not roll:
1. Set the parking brake.
2. Start the vehicle.
3. Connect the vehicle to the towing vehicle.
4. Put the transmission in NEUTRAL (N) or have
the clutch pedal pressed for vehicles with
manual transmission.
5. Shift the transfer case to 2HI.
6. Simultaneously press and hold the 2HI and
4LO buttons for 10 seconds. The red NEUTRAL
light will come on when the transfer case shift to
NEUTRAL is complete.
7. Shift the transmission to REVERSE (R) for one
second, then shift the transmission to DRIVE (D)
for one second or FIRST (1) for vehicles with
manual transmission.
8. Turn the ignition to OFF.
9. Place the transmission shift lever in PARK (P) or
FIRST (1) for vehicles with manual transmission.
10. Release the parking brake prior to towing.

************************

Shifting Out of NEUTRAL
To shift out of NEUTRAL:
1. Set the parking brake and apply the regular
brake pedal.
2. Start the vehicle with the transmission in PARK (P)
or FIRST (1) for vehicles with manual transmission.
3. Press the button for the desired transfer case position
(2HI, 4HI, AUTO 4WD or 4LO).
4. Put the transmission in NEUTRAL (N) or press the
clutch pedal for vehicles with manual transmission.
5. Shift the transmission lever to the desired position.
After the transfer case has shifted out of NEUTRAL,
the red light will go out.
6. A re-engagement sound is normal when shifting out
of NEUTRAL.

Gear shift is locked. we can only shift the car

The automatic transmissions on these vehicles are known to die early in the life of the car and Volvo is well aware that the vehicle has a dud auto transmission. The symptoms you have mentioned are an indication that the transmission has had it. It's basically just running in limp mode now.

You don't say what mileage this vehicle has clocked up but even low mileage vehicles have had to have the entire transmission replaced due to failures like yours. You also, no doubt, have a transmission alert showing on the dash.

The bad news is that a replacement automatic transmission will now be necessary and this will be costly. Even then, with these cars, you could experience another transmission failure after just another 30000 miles or so of driving.

There is power but it does nothing when i turn the ignition

try starting it in neutral. there is a safety switch on the transmission that will not allow the car to start unless it is in park or neutral. sometimes the shift lever gets a little out of line with the transmission. also try shifting to and from park a few times. this may trigger the switch to allow a start. good luck

Cold Start and TRanny issues.

A neutral park switch keeps you from activating the starter in drive or reverse. It also turns the reverse lights on. Its on top of the transmission at the end of the shift cable . If it does not turn over in park try it in neutral, Clean battery cables. Check fuel pressure. Is check engine light on?
