Well you need to check the main fuse in the engine compartment also there should be one under dash for battery, or it should say charge.

Battery light is on

In about 99 percent of cases, when your batery light is on it means you are having a charging problem. Just because it is a "Battery" light, it doesn't mean your battery is bad. The only thing the battery does in a vehicle is basically start the vehicle. Your vehicle's charging system like the alternator takes over all electrical systems and runs the vehicle. I'm not sure of your model so I can't say if you have a blown fuse or anything but more than likely you nave a faulty alternator. This is the most common thing when your batery light is on. I hope this helps....

Dead battery, replaced battery and alternator but still no charge!

if its not charging while running at14.5 volts or so you have a charging problem mabey no power to the alternator if its charging at 14.5 or so and the batery load tests good and its going dead over night you have a draw from some component in the system.

Batery wont charge new alternater and batery the batery light does nont come on in the dash

Check the 30 amp alternator mini fuse (#26) in the engine compartment fuse box by the battery. By the way, if you don't have an owners manual, you can download on here: http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pubs/content/~WOVSAB/~MUS~LEN/40/97sabog1e.pdf

Will start and run fo a short distance and cut off. I had the battery checked and charged and it tested ok. could it be the alternater?

Could be..... the batery is just used for starting, once the engine is running it pulls electric power from the altinator, if the altinator which also charges the batery, is not working power is pulled from the battery, and when the battery goes dead, the car does too. When the Car turns off, do you then need to jump it to start it? if so you could be pretty convinced that the altinator is the issue

New alternator and batery still not charging

Not enough information. When was the alternator changed and was the battery fully charged before trying to start after installing new alternator. If not the alternator could have burnt up. Have electrical system checked free at Advance Auto.

Ford has a technical service bulletin out that may fit your concern.

Jump start the car and start it only for it to die a few minutes later. could this be the altanator or batery?

It is the alterntor, if the charging system was ok the engine would continue to run. Make sure the battery is fully charged (engine cranks fast) before you replace the alternator or you could burn out the new alternator from overheating.

Electrical

Hi,

These two faults (no charge & battery drain) indicates a fault with the alternator specifically either the voltage regulator or any of the diodes. Though it is possible to repair them individually, it is more to your advantage to replace the whole alternator.

Pls be reminded though that the battery + terminal is directly connected to the alternator's output and therefore safety precautions preclude that the battery terminal be removed. However, doing so could and would reset the car's computer. Additionally, most car stereos would require a security code in the event battery terminal is removed.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
