Check for restricted catalytic converter.

Testimonial: "how would I do that with out cutting it off"

The ideal way is to measure back pressure by removing the O2 sensor and hooking up a pressure gauge with a hose long enough so you can see the gauge while driving. If pressure goes over 3psi, cat. is partially restricted. The higher the pressure, the more restricted it is. If you cannot measure pressure, next method would be to try to partially unbolt the exhaust y-pipes from the manifolds and try driving to see if performance and speed improves.

SOURCE: 1997 chevy cavalier Z24 2.4l autotrans. fluid level

Hi losflip,
There is a plug located where the right side axle shaft enters the transmission it is above the pan. To check the fluid level of the transmission the engine must be at operating temp and the vehicle must be level. The must be running and the transmission in park, the plug is then removed and if transmission fluid starts dripping/leaking out it is full. If not transmission fluid should be added till fluid starts leaking from the plug hole, then just reinsert the plug and tighten. Generally this is done with the vehicle on a lift in order to access the plug, you might be able to do this if you have enough room to access the plug remember the vehicle must be level.

SOURCE: i have a 91 camaro rs i put a starter in it it

If the key turns, that's all it needs to do. Check, with a test light, to see if you have power to the starter. It could be a dirty loose battery cable, or a faulty cable, or a fuseable link in the positie cable that is gone. It could be the ignition switch itself. Not the key and tumbler, the switch on the steering column. You'll have to do some checking.

SOURCE: 1997 Chevrolet Camaro RS 3800 series (VIN K) V6

re-seat and clean all plug wires and clean coil post.. i found on my 97 that i had some corroded leads and dirty coil post. the evap could just mean the gas cap isnt on securely. Change "fuel filter" and purchase a can of "Sea Foam" @ Autozone.. pour in 1/2 can to half tank of gas and drive for 30 minutes and let it clean the injectors...if all this fails to correct the problem.. then it might just be the ICM.

Slips from Drive to neutral at 35 mph.

Check the fluid and its level. If fluid smells burnt then clutches inside are slipping if fluid is red and smells ok then you will need someone to diagnose it, possibly a shift solenoid not engaging the 3-4 shift.

How easy is it to use a 2005 v6 3.8 in a 1997 rs camaro

Well to start with, the last year for the gen 4 Camaro was 2002. So what is the 2005 engine supposed to fit ? It would have to be for a rear wheel drive car, and even then I doubt it would bolt up to a mid 1990s chassis and transmission. Especially the electronics and exhaust.
A salvage yard would have the interchange books to tell you how many years would fit your model.

See if it is running on codes by hooking it up to a diagnostic machine. It may be something very minuscule and simple to fix which is causes your SEL to come on.
