Question about 1996 Ford Thunderbird LX
If you use the same key to open the boot I would be removing the boot lock as it is a lot easier than having to remove the door trim to get to the inside to remove the clip that holds the lock in place.

Vapor lock cannot occur in a tank mounted fuel pump. The pump may be worn enough to lose it's pumping ability at high temperatures. Have you changed the fuel filter? Is the check engine light on? If so, rent a scanner, read the code(s) and follow them to repairs. What occurs when the temps reach 96 degrees?
