Question about Cars & Trucks
My 1999 Trans Am ws6 will not shift from Park. Has done this several times both when parked on an incline and also when parked on flat surface. When on Flat surface turning the wheel back and forth has helped sometimes and other times has not.
Sounds to me like the linkage may be off by an inch or so try adjusting the cable on side of Trans there will be an adjustment but. And also check fluid .

SOURCE: cant get shift out of park
the shiter interlock has broken at the shifter...pull the cover from the shifter and locate the then wire at the front left side of the assembly...start the vehicle...apply foot brake,,,push rearward on the plastic piece the cable attaches to at th shifter...and pull into gear.
this not a repair...the only true fix is to replace the shifter assembly

you could need a throttle linkage adjustment. first check to see if your ram will start in "park" and "neutral" only. if it starts in any other gear=faulty neutral safety switch. replace. ok, now check linkage for proper adjustment...with engine off and in park...remove intake housing..disconnect cableend from attatchment stud on your throttle body..slide cable off the stud (carefully)..verify that the transmissionthrottle lever is fully forward (idle) position..and verify that the lever on the throttle body is at curb idle pos..insert small screwdriver under edge of the retaining clip and remove..center the cable end on attatchment stud to within 0.04", or 1mm. install retaining clip onto cable housing..check cable adjustment..be sure trans throttle lever and throttlr body lever move in sync with each other.

most likely your brake switch is out. If you had a scanner you would be able to see if the computer see's you pressing on the pedal. Or if you know how to test you could check to see if it switches ( completes the circuit ).

Welcome to the world of broken dodge shifters... I'm a member myself BUT there's hope!
Billettechnologies.com has a replacement cog for the shifter mechanism. And there are online replacement instructions linked from their website. Dodge only sells a replacement shifter assembly.. this is cheaper and the replacement part is machine metal instead of Dodge's plastic part... It'll take some patience and tools to get at it, but it's doable..

Testimonial: "I appreciate the help. My fiance took the assembly apart & repaired it himself. I can't believe Dodge is not more helpful! Thank you!"
If the car is inclined severly the shifter will be harder to move as more of a load rests on the park gear. You may have to pull it hard but should come out of park. Make sure your foot is firmly on the brake pedal too and the key is in the on position
