1996 4runner wont crank

I have a 1996 Toyota 4Runner manual 4x4. I was driving home when the gas like became solid and I was about 5 miles from my house. When I got home and pulled into the drive way it was running fine. when I got in it to go get gas it would turn over but never crank. i tried to crank it several times and nothing happened. I pulled a gas line off in front of the filter and gas would come through but its not getting to the cylinders or to the injectors. What is wrong?

Change your fuel filter, it may have gone it's life time and is getting to dirty to let fuel flow properly. Your fuel pump to may be getting weak, if the fuel filter is dirty the pump works harder and heats up and could be over heating the fuel pump relay too. The fuel pump relay i believe is in the glove box behind a panel that say relay, there should be (3) in there and the middle one is the fuel pump's. switch then around after you change the fuel filter and if you get a chance, check your fuel pressure at the shredder valve. Good luck and hope this help's if there is a Auto Zone around you, you can ask to use the fuel pressure gauge to see what fuel pressure you have and they'll have the step by step instructions on how to do it and takes about 5 min to do and will have the fuel filter and step by step to replace that too. Keep me posted, be glad to help.

You could see if spark plugs have spark if not ck crank sensor or you got a tank of bad gas.

I was driving my Toyota 4runner and noticed steam coming out from under hood. I shut engine off. After engine cooled off, it won't start so I can put water in it?

Well, you over heated it if you saw steam coming out. If you warped the head then you may be sucking air or throwing water into the pistons causing a no start. 1st is to make sure you are NOT putting water into the bottle or radiator. You need to be using coolant (Anti-freeze) 2nd, check to make sure you're getting gas 3rd make sure you're getting spark. If all is good then I would remove the spark plugs, and let them dry off because they're probably loaded with gas. Cut the fuel pump from pumping gas into the cylinders by either pressing 1/2 way down or all the way down on the gas pedal. Crank engine over 5 or 6 times to blow the gas out of the cylinders. Replace the dried off plugs or put new ones in. Turn key to on position count to 5 and start car. if that doesn't work try a 1 second squirt of starting fluid into the breather. If it starts great, if not then you probably need to look at the cam or crank sensor.

Clutch issue? 89 toyota PU 4x4 V6 150,000 miles

Yep, you got it. Assuming spring tension on pressure plate feels normal (you should know with 150k mi) then the clutch disk is worn. Time for replacement.

98 4Runner w/ 3.4L 4X4. Was sitting at a stop light and it just quit. It has 142,000 miles on it. All maintenance is performed by self. Restarted the vehicle and it stopped again. Tried restrating and it...

Check the Fuel filter, And Also Check the Fuel Pressure for what your 4 Runner calls for, Not to mention Did you Buy Cheap gas for a Gas station that you Normally Dont use? Might have Watered down gas..

A Stupid But Sometime working Item is to Tap the Fuel Filter a few times with the back of a Screw driver to knock the "Dirt" in the Filter around and see if it start as normal,

If So Replace the Filter, But at 142,000 your about Due for a Fuel Pump..

Check engine and VSC lights on

I talked to you on the live chat, and I think that you may have missed the end of my typing...

What I went on to say is that more often than not, on the 02 4Runners, the Check and VSC lights in tandem look mainly after the emission system, and, since you stated no issues during the road test, I would guess that it is a fuel issue (too full/loose gas cap). But, if you can get the vehicle scanned, I will be very glad to provide you with more and better info if you provide me with the DTC codes. That would require your guy or an autozone hookup to a scan tool. I hope my clarification helps; and the graciouness of a FIxYa rating for this question would be greatly appreciated
