At oil temp check engine & cruise light

Trying to get out of the snow yesterday i got stuck in the snow a few times. when i finally got out a few minutes later the at oil temp light came on for a few minutes and went off and the check engine and cruise are still on. What could be wrong with the car? Is it just from tires spinning too much?

Maybe.
You would need to get the engine computer scanned for trouble codes to proceed. As long as the check engine light is on the cruise light may stay too.

SOURCE: Check engine light came on

I did end up taking my car to the dealership where I bought it. They were great! He knew immediately what the problem was. Of course, they still did a thorough check too.
Anyway, it turned out that the plug to the electronic system had been knocked loose. This caused the check engine light to come on & the cruise control to not work (you were right, if the check engine light is on, cruise doesn't work). As for the door, that was simply the switch plate needing to be adjusted.

SOURCE: ABS Light and Check Engine Light on, Cruise light flashing

I had this occur on my 2007 Subaru Tribeca. ABS, Traction Control, Check Engine lights were solid, Cruise Control light was blinking and "Er SS" (commonly misread as Er 55) displayed on Trip Odometer. All lights were cleared after 10 or so miles. It appears this is a Speed Sensor (SS) reading error whereby the computer notices an irregularity with the readings taken from the four wheels. Most often it is a temporary and harmless glitch and sometimes a result of debris that is impeding the sensor's reading at one of the wheels.

SOURCE: check engine light, cruise control light flashing,

Take the car to Autozone or similar business for a free code read with a scanner. Depending on what turns up, they will be happy to sell you any needed parts.

SOURCE: 2006 Subaru Outback: all of a sudden, the cruis

Hello, whenever the check engine light comes on the cruse light will flash as well, that is normal. The check engine light will not come on if fluid levels are low or if the temp is getting to high, I am pleased to know that you checked all of the fluids, most wouldn't have even the slightest thought to even try checking them. The On Board Diagnostics or OBD-2 for short only sets a check engine light when the ECM or Electronic Control Module reads a sensor value either too high or too low, but it has to read that same fault 3 consecutive times in a row to turn on the check engine light (w/ flashing cruise). Otherwise your check engine light would be going on and off all the time. I would go to your local parts store and have them check the codes for free because a dealer will have to charge you labor for them to check due to the knowledge needed to use the highly sophisticated scan tool they use. That way you can go either to an independent shop or a dealer with what the other scanner says is wrong which cuts down on the cost of repairs. They will probably ask you if you fueled up just before the engine light came on, in which that would be code P0440:EVAP leak(very small leak), that means the fuel tank sensor doesn't like how you put the fuel cap on. Subaru recommends AT LEAST 3 clicks when tightening your fuel cap. But until that code is checked you won't know whats wrong, if nothing went boom or bang you'll probably be ok. If it does end up being a fuel cap leak, then just loosen the cap put it back on and just make 1 full revolution, and just keep driving it. The light will go off within 3 full warm up cool down cycles or (drive cycles). I hope this info helps...(subyguru)...

Fan clutch or fan clutch sensor? How do I tell the difference? See more details

I wish you guys/gals would give info on what vehicle you need help with..just too many variables out there today..most cars today have fan sensors that are located in the radiator core fins..it turns on when the temp rises above the preset temp..and shuts off when it reaches the normal operating temp of the engine...fan clutches were designed to work with RPM's allowing the engine to rev and not lose power from fan spinning..a stuck clutch would cause high revs of the fan and reduced cruising speed..a lose one would cause over heating.hope this helps good luck..

After being stuck in the snow the engine light stays on and the cruise control does not work. I have checked the vacuam hoses and none seems to be loose.

Same thing just happened to my Dodge Magnum, turns out it was a stuck brake switch. It was telling sending the message to my cruise control that I had no brakes. It was covered under warranty and was located on the top of the brake pedal inside the car. It was fixed in no time.

2002 F250 4x2 SC - abs light comes on momentarily under hard acceleration, speedometer drops down at same time then pegs back up to normal speed. Coincides with tranny downshift. No loss of power, no wheel...

I bet you also lose the function of your cruise control when it happens. I would start first with checking the wiring connection on the vehicle speed sensor (also acts as abs sensor). Remove the sensor, clean it up and reinstall. If that doesn't work, replace the VSS.

You will find it on the top of your rear differential.

Side note: If you ever get stuck in the mud/snow and have to rock the truck forward/reverse, sometimes that will trigger your ABS light as well. This will normally reset itself after a few on/off cycles of the engine.

Next time that happens, like the tech said tap the gas peddle, but if your coming to traffic or a town or a stop, slow down as much as you can, throw it in neutral (as if you put it into park while still moving with speed, that could screw your transmission. Anyway, put it into neutral, turn it off, tap the gas peddle like the tech said, and then restart the car. (To be on the safe side, rather then having the car rev growing.
Yes like you said their is a TSB for this and my buddie has experienced the same problem, coincidentally while I was driving with him. What happens is when you tap the break or cruise control, the mechanism that controls the throttle cable fails to let go, so thus when you tap the peddle it kinda nudges it back.
You could say the mechanism that takes control of the throttle, sticks yes.

You do know that the manufacturer will replace this for you free - no charge? So you will have no more problems anymore. Owners can contact Rostra at 910-291-2538.
