SOURCE: where is ecm located in a 2000 pontiac montana

Its located under the radiator overflow tank inside the air filter housing. I think they call it the powertrain control module.

EGR replacement

If you are facing the engine from the front of the vehicle, the EGR valve is located to the right hand side of the engine compartment, mounted behind the air intake/trottle body assembly. It is bolted to a bracket that is bolted to the rear of the lower intake manifold.
There is one bolt that holds the EGR tube to it and two bolts that hold it to the intake manifold take them out, unplug the electrical connector and its off.

When you replace the EGR valve, you need to clear the DTC codes from the ECM. Auto Zone can clear the codes, but before they do that you need to disconnect the egr wire harness and then reconnect it soon as the codes clear. The ECM needs to reset it self with the new EGR. If you can not get to a place that will clear the codes for free, Disconnect the EGR wire connection. Place the ignition to the run position and pull the fuse to the ECM (Batt) for 20 sec and place it back in and reconnect the EGR. Start the Montana and it may stall when it starts, Let it stall and DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING. It's just the ECM recalibrating it self to the engine, just start it up again the second time and things should be good as new.
Good luck and hope this helps.
