Adjust the latch so that the catch will lock over properly. You may need to use a round bar ( screwdriver blade ) Place it under the latch and while pressing on the release button pull the latch out to the open position. The latch may be 1/2 closed before the boot is put down and the latch will not go any further

SOURCE: trunk won't close

You should be able to Close that Manually. Just wait for the Electronic Close to Stop Trying before you close it and it should be just fine.

Make sure it is not binding/sticking where you pull the release cable.

Drench the entire works in WD-40. Push it back and forth until it moves with no resistance.

Make sure the part that hooks onto the latch hasn't come loose enough to not slide over when it makes contact.

If that doesn't work, take the whole thing off. You'll have to anyway to replace it. Chances are with it disassembled you'll see what's wrong.

SOURCE: my 92 eldo cadi trunk won't close it latches but

There is a electric motor on the lower part of the trunk that usually goes bad. Not on the trunk lid but the trunk part. You can remove the assembly and take it apart so you can turn the latch all the way down , Once youy have done this you can put it back in place. Make sure you unplug the motor so it won't go up again, You should be able to use the release button inside.

Trunk latch is stuck. trunk will not close. help

Its possible that it is just sticky, i dont know for sure what style your car has but if it the kind with the lever in the drivers side floorboard, get a buddy to hold the lever up for you and try to GENTLY pry the latch its self open with a flat head screw driver then spray some white lithium grease on it and work the trunk lid a few times

HOW TO TURN OFF THE TRUNK OPEN ALARM

The 2012 Camry's trunk lid has a 'trunk open' alarm that shows up on the instrument panel as 'door open' red icon. It also turns on the door open beeping sound so long as the trunk lid is open. This is normal and is usually not a problem..

However, if you should need to carry a large item in the trunk and can't close the lid, be prepared to listen to the incessant door open sound with no means to turn it off!!

The trunk lid alarm 'switch' is operated by the trunk latch when you open or close the lid. By manually operating the latch to it's closed position, you can temporarily silence the alarm.

Using a small screwdriver, you can easily press the actuator and turn the alarm off.

**WARNING**
YOU MUST RETURN THE ACTUATOR TO THE OPEN POSITION (ABOVE)
(ALARM ON) BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE LID. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY DAMAGE THE LATCHING MECHANISM
**WARNING**

DO THIS WITH THE TRUNK OPEN LEVER OR WITH THE REMOTE TRUNK OPEN BUTTON.

Picture 2: trunk lid latch in the CLOSED (Alarm OFF) position.

IF YOU TRY TO CLOSE THE LID WITH THE LATCH IN THIS POSITION YOU MAY DAMAGE OR BREAK THE LATCHING MECHANISM

I have a 2004 chevy cavalier and the trunk latch won't click into place and close fully, therefore the trunk won't close fully.

yes that could be the problem. try this putt your key in to the lock and turn it to unlock it , check to see if latch is open ,while still holding the key in the unlock position close the trunk and relock it with the key while pushing down on the hood at the same time. replace the lock when you can .there is no quick fix for this unless u use a bungee cord for it .

Our 2003 Lincoln Towncar trunk has suddenly began not shutting properly. When it closes, it does not fully close to a seal. Upon our troubleshooting we feel the mechanism which brings the trunk to a full...

Once the lid is latched there is a motor that pulls the latch assembly down to finish closing the lid.

I would check the latch mechinism make sure it's not moving around on you like the bolts have loosened or that anything is bent. Also there is a switch in the mechanism that activates it to finish closing as well, open the trunk and close the jaw on the lock with a screwdriver or something similar, and see if you can hear the motor run, if not I would place blame on the switch or the motor itself. And as always I would check for loose / broke wires or a bad ground in the immeidate vicinity of the mechanism.

1997 cadillic sts trunk lid will not latch to close. i don't have a shop manual for the car and am not sure where to start. a 20a fuse labeled pull down in trunk is o.k. have not used dmm or test light to...

Do you mean the pulldown is not working, or the trunk lid latch is not connecting to the pulldown assembly when you try to close the trunk?

This latter case typically happens when someone slams the trunk lid down several times not realizing there is a pulldown system and thinking slamming it will make it close (this often breaks something). Check the latch on the trunk lid - if it's in the closed position, use the key to try to move it to the open position and try gently closing the lid again.

If not, there is also a switch on the pulldown assembly that starts the pulldown motor when it is depressed by the closing trunk lid - you can also check this to make sure it's working. Otherwise, either the latch or the pulldown assembly has been bent/broken.

Does this car has power trunk?

If you mean automatic closing check at the latch area inside trunk and look for wiring going to a motor that would pull the trunk lid down when latched.I am almost sure only the 98 series had auto close function.

2000 Lexus ES300 trunk lid does not fit right on 2001 Lexus ES300

Hi, try loosening the catch on the trunk lid but do not remove it and the lock mechanism, close the trunk lid but not fully, then pull the backseats down and climb into the trunk. Adjust the lock and latch until they meet up and lock together ( This will take some time and patience is essential). Fasten the Catch and Lock back up. Then retry opening and closing, if it still doesnt fit just do the same again, just needs a bit of adjustment.

hope this helps. jonno
