My 1999 s80 was on a hill the battery died so we put in a new battery it would try to start,a slow rough idle,touch the gas it would die,also may of run out of gas ,we put plenty in but the front is downhill. could there be a air lock,i checked the bleeder valve at the end of the injecter tube not much pressure,any ideas

4.9 litre ?? you having a laugh its a 10ton truck engine not a pick up -global warming machine,remove the pump/sender unit and check the gauze filter also look inside tank for a something floating around ,i think the idles is not a related problem to the vehicle losing power but their is a possibility you could have a problem with the little vac operated thing on the fuel injector line that allows the fuel through only when the engine is running

mcdevito75 here, It could be a dirty screen on the fuel pump itself, or a weak fuel pump. Have your local shop check it out. At the very least have the shop replace the fuel filter.

Who said it was a gas cap?? If you had the free test by Autozone or other parts store you have leaned a good lesson, those parts pushers are not trained emission and engine control systems technicians and should not be handing out repair advice, but what the heck it is your money, and that's good for them, right? And all boils down is to more profit for them. Have a shop or better yest a dealer look at this and don't waste any more money ion unnecessary parts.
