Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 2002 Jaguar X Type that I just purchased and it has a check engine light, ABS, DSC not working and cruise not available. I had the Engine light checked and it showed up a knock sensor. However the car runs and drives great so I am assuming that the sensor itself has gone faulty. This is my first Jaguar so my knowledge of this vehicle is very limited. From what I'VE gathered I have some what came up with a "Reluctor Ring" on the CV joint but where would I start to look being that this car is an AWD? Any help would be appreciated and it is very possible that I am way off base with my solution as well.

You can probably find a Chiltons or Haynes manual @ your local Library that you can check out for troubleshooting information. I would contact them first to see if they do, or you can buy a book specifically for your Car at your local auto parts store. If they do not have it, then they may be able to order it for you.

SOURCE: check engine light code p1603

When I went outside to start my Jaguar X-Type it was cold outside. I was in a hurry and didn't let the car warm up properly. It jumped a bit then the check engine light came on along with a message that said No cruise control. The no cruise light came off but my check engine light is still on. Any suggestions as to what it may be?

SOURCE: ABS Light and Check Engine Light on, Cruise light flashing

I had this occur on my 2007 Subaru Tribeca. ABS, Traction Control, Check Engine lights were solid, Cruise Control light was blinking and "Er SS" (commonly misread as Er 55) displayed on Trip Odometer. All lights were cleared after 10 or so miles. It appears this is a Speed Sensor (SS) reading error whereby the computer notices an irregularity with the readings taken from the four wheels. Most often it is a temporary and harmless glitch and sometimes a result of debris that is impeding the sensor's reading at one of the wheels.

SOURCE: my jaguar x type sport check engine light is on

Thanks to all who wrote about the PVC hose. I am the original owner of a 2002 X-Type 3.0 with automatic. This weekend the engine light went on with a warning message that the cruise control is unavailable. The cruise worked and the only symptom I noticed was a slight lurching when slowing to a stop. I found these posts about the PVC hose and checked out mine to find there was a 4 inch **** in this hose. I bought a replacement from the dealer (Part No. C2540863 - £6) and noticed the new one has a waffle texture instead of smooth and feels stiffer. It also has clamps on each end which were missing on the original. This fixed the problem! It drives smoother and there is absolutely no lurching as I come to a stop.

The work involved is to take off the 3 screws and the oil filler cap which holds the plastic cover over the engine. Then remove the old hose by hand, reinstall the new hose with the 2 crimp style clamps. This hose is about 10 inches long and 1 inch in diameter going from the exhaust manifold to the engine, entering the engine right next to the rightmost screw anchor holding the plastic cover. Replace plastic cover and you are done (about 10 minutes). I recommend this as good preventive maintenance for anyone who still has the old smooth PVC hose.

Cruise option not available light comes on occasionally and at certain times when it does the car sputters (for lack of better word) as it it is going to cut off, and the engine light stays on

Hello the cruise will not work with the engine management light on, this will also happen with the abs light on. You should have the codes checked at a local garage. Try checking the pipe which runs from the top of the manifold to the front of the car on the right hand side as these are very common for splitting but are very cheap from the dealers.

Hello. This tends to be all to do with the ABS. Some models have a reluctor ring on each cv joint near the wheel which looks like a castle moulding, but on mine there is a magnetic strip in the wheel bearing and mine corroded which reduced the signal. This caused the abs light and engine management light to come on. Without abs you cannot use the cruise control. It's not an expensive job to replace the bearing or to replace the cv joint if you have the reluctor ring but beware the dealers will try and sell you a whole drive shaft and this is not needed.
