Sounds like bad door latches. You may also need a drivers door lock cylinder.
You should be able to start the car by opening the trunk first. That should disable the alarm, disconnecting the battery will not help.

2000 volkswagon beetle open drivers door dome light does not come on put key in ignition and alarm goes off do the same on passenger side and everything works correctly any idea what to look for thanks...

use the remote to lock/unlock the car,it is not programmed to shut off the alarm when you use key in drivers door (it thinks its being stolen) and, no,you cannot reset/change it.

My husband changed the battery to my car and now my alarm doesn't work any idea how to reset it so it could lock and unlock on the alarm.

you can try this solution...

turn on and off your ignition switch with out starting it..and leave it on on the fifth time then press your lock button of your alarm.

if it makes a sound, it would work but if not, then that is not the reset procedure.
it works in some alarm models...

another thought would be sometimes power wires from the battery could have overlooked and left not connected to the battery specially after a battery change.

it happened to me a lot. after changing a battery, i would overlooked one wire and something would no longer work.

try both solutions and hopefully one would work.

tnx 4 using fixya,
