SOURCE: parking brake wont release

The switch for the E brake realease is vacum operated and located in the steering colum. But it may be
as simple as a vacum line off under the dash. But for
the time being there is a manual release lever under the dash near the top of the e brake peddle.
Hope this helps.

Electronic Parking Brake Description tip if ice berg

Vehicles with the electric parking brake have a switch in the center console, which takes the place of the manual parking brake system, the foot pedal and release handle. In case of insufficient electrical power, the electric parking brake cannot be applied or released.
Occasionally, the electronic parking brake will automatically apply when the vehicle is not moving. The electronic parking brake performs a operational check every 50 key cycles. When this check is being performed, the park brake light on the instrument cluster becomes illuminated. This function does not affect the normal operation of the vehicle.
Electric Parking Brake Control Module The parking brake control module has an internal motor, apply actuator, release actuator, and temperature sensor. The parking brake control module also contains the logic for applying and releasing the parking brake when commanded by the park brake control switch. When the parking brake control module receives a signal from the switch the internal circuit board temperature is checked to verify it is within operating range before the control module performs the requested operation.
The electric parking brake module receives hard wired signals from the apply/release switch and communication enable. The electric parking brake module receives wheel speed sensor signals, engine torque, gear information, brake pedal signal, and etc. through GM-LAN.

2004 ford lariat it Wont go out of park I

There should be a solenoid that releases when you press the brake pedal. The solenoid releases the lock that prevents you from shifting out of park unless you have applied the brakes.
So, either the brake switch is bad or the solenoid or the wiring.

BUT, sometimes (especially if the car was put into park without coming to a complete stop) the transmission will get a bit stuck - rocking the vehicle could help.

Parking light wont go out and keeps dinging

Reach down and release the parking brake at the same time pull up on the parking brake pedal. Sometimes the pedal gets bumped just enough to engage the switch indicating the brake is engaged.

I have a passat 2006 fsi. The Parking breaks wont release after pressing the release button

I had the same problem on my Passat Variant 2007.
Randomly Park Brake won't activate and/or deactivate once button PB pressed.
The cockpit computer tells "Park Brake Error" (or something similar).
If this is your problem, the issue is very well known to VW Service centers.
I had solved it by bringing the car to the Service: The told me that they substituted the ParkBrake Button (a differently made one, even if identical on the exterior) and Reprogramming (Updating) the car computer software.

Parking brake wont release

Your cables have rusted up. they need replaced. You can cut the cable towards the back by the tires. This will take a grinder or a large set of bolt cutters. This will release the brakes until you can replace them. You just wont have parking brakes, all the others will work fine.

Wont go out of park

Jack up one rear wheel, park brake off, to release the pressure on the drivetrain. This will release the gear shifter. Take care to chock the other wheels before releasing the park brake.

Parking break wont release

I suspect the parking brake cables are rusted & corroded inside the cable housings. They are coated but they do freeze up.

97 honda civic dx the parking brake wont release and it sticking.

what i find common is the parking brake handle slides up over time covering the release button and not allowing the park brake to go down. can you push the button with your fingertip while pulling up on the handle and release the park brake? if so you can tap the handle to the rear with out hitting the button. protect the button with a socket or use a block of wood next to the button. don't hit the button.
