the L gear is Gear # 1 and likewise 2 is second gear, you utilise this in case you are going down on a slop especially icy or snow condition all it does is runs just on 1 or 2 respectively without changing whichh gieves more traction on the road.

SOURCE: My 99 mitsubishi galant won,t

either you have a bad connection to your battery or,, you have a bad starter. no other solution. if it clicks when you try to start it and the batterys fully charged,you're getting fire to the starter and it's trying to start,but the starter bendix isn't kicking out.which means it's a bad starter. thank you for choosing fixya.com

SOURCE: after changing oils with my mitsubishi rvr 1998, the gear doesn't shift automatically when driving uphill aside from ajerk sound

make sure fluid level not low.because most time when you change transmission fluid and filter some times you could still be a half or quart low check transmission fluid level.

Ok, I have changed the spark plug wires and plugs, I drive the car to town, which is 40 miles away, I go to the store and come out and try to start the car and it won't start, it has to set for one...
