Question about Cars & Trucks
We are thinking of buying a 1976 99 GL Saab. But it overheats and there seems to be a bit of antifreeze in the oil. Can a water pump cause that problem, or is it more likely a head gasket or cracked head?
No the water pump will not do that Your Looking at a cracked gead unfortunately

SOURCE: saab 9-5 2.3 turbo leaking....
as the turbo is cooled by water and if the bearings fail yes its possable if the car is auto the rad has a oil cooler built in to it or the auto box or at the worst head gasket

Re : the computer , they better cover it under warranty or they ****.
Re : the water pump , you have a leak and they say it is the water pump , I have no reason to doubt that they have honestly checked out the problem and determined that a new water pump is the only solution but , damn $ 1000 is pretty steep. I would look around for another mechanic for a second opinion and a quote. Avoid dealerships. Not sure what engine you have but i just looked in my saab with a 2.3 and hope I never have to do mine. I am pretty good with a wrench but I know there would be lots of swearing involved.
