Is there a test for the on board computer to see if it is working properly

My idle is too low when engine is to adjust

the idle is not adjustable, it is controlled by the on-board computer system, by a idle control motor or valve whichever you want to call it. suspect that the idle control unit is bad or the throttle body has allot of carbon build up that is not allowing the unit to work properly.
