Remove the manifold from the engine and have it machined flat at an engineering shop . Fit new manifold gasket and tension the studs correctly in the correct order . Check the stud tensions as the innermost studs are tighter than the end studs .

Hi, my golf mk1 1.6 1995 model makes a tapping sound when i drive it but it stops when i idle

Sounds like to me a small exhust leak either
a exhust manafold gasket or exhust flange
gasket or cracked exhust manifold.
Anything else would be enteral meaning
valves need to be set, bad lifter, bad rod bearing,
bad oil pump, or timing chain tensioner,
BUT I would be willing to put my money
on an exhust leak or timing chain tensioner
it's one of the 2

How do i find where an exhust leak is coming

check where the headers come off of the engine exhaust leaks are generally quite loud and you will either be at the headers/exhaust manifold or just as you come off that bend there will be a flange gasket inside the two pipes joining. from the bend to the straight pipe just as it passes the gearbox and starts to straighten out.

I have a 1997 Ford Ranger with a 4.0 ltr V-6 engine the engine runs rough and the chk. eng. light is on, I took the vehicle to a shop and they told me it was a leaky lower intake manifold, I want to know...

buy a can of carb cleaner with the little red nossle
start the truck and take the can of carb cleaner and spray small amounts around the intake don't forget to also do the vaccum lines if you have a leak the engine will rev up ( thoes trucks with the 4.0 was good for doing that

I have an external antifreeze leak at the head gasket ,driver side, kind of greenish stain, small drips, would this just need a new head gasket? oil looks fine. radiator is wet inside , but not full to...

This is a common problem on these motors. They leak between the intake manifold and the head, in the corners where they meet the block. You will need to replace the manifold gaskets and felpro makes a kit with everything in it.

Fuel Injectors leaking

Where the injector's mount to the fuel rail and into the eng. there are o-ring's.Check the o-ring's for damage. If the o-ring that seal's the inj. to the fuel rail is damaged it will leak alot from the pressure of the pump and make the car act like it's running on 3 cylinders because there is no fuel going to the cylinder to ignite. If there is a bad seal in the area where the inj. goes into the cyl.head it will leak a little and should be fixed as well. When installing new o-ring's lube them up litely for a easier install.Be sure to clean the gas up so you dont ignite any spilled gas.Hope this help's.

Exhust manifold leaking

These are nasty manifolds... they are prone to failure at any or all of the weld points due to the extremely high temperature that they are repeatedly exposed to and must cool off from. Sadly, the manifold is retardedly difficult to replace and match correctly to the engine's head so it is best to replace the head and manifold in a pair from the same donor car. These manifolds are nearly impossible to repair, especially due to the location of the studs, etc. good luck man
